With his lugubrious face, pouched eyes, Scots-genteel accent and funereal laugh, Alastair Sim was one of British cinema’s most beloved eccentrics. This set misses his finest work – his double-act (one in drag) from The Belles Of St. Trinian’s, his Scrooge. Instead, we get five variable ‘50s comedies, three from the old-faithful team of Frank Launder and Sidney Gilliat. Geordie and Left Right And Centre disappoint, but the other films (left) have their moments.
