
James Stewart's smalltown lawyer goes head-to-head with big-city prosecutor George C Scott (in his first major role) to defend a soldier accused of murdering the man who had allegedly raped his wife. Although the `controversial' subject matter and explicit language now look quaintly dated, Otto Preminger's cynical view of the judicial system is curiously contemporary and still serves as a blueprint for numerous TV 'tec shows.
