An extras-light but worthy re-release of Zacharias Kunuk’s Inuit-language debut feature, a tribal tale of love feuds and lust, rivalry and revenge.
It’s initially inscrutable, slow at three hours and weirdly claustrophobic, despite the expansive Arctic landscapes.
But robust acting, uncanny DV-shot images and a rugged depiction of daily life and ritual grant a palpable power to the grand emotions at play.
Includes a brief BBC4 doc.
