
Sure, it may not have the trademark power theme or that beloved credit sequence, but all the foundations are still here for the beach-opera’s impending world domination. Want toned and beautiful babes in thong bikinis, awful, awful dialogue (“Wouldn’t it be bitchin’ if we got to work towers tonight?”) and thrilling surf rescues? They’re all here. And while the mountainous landscapes of Pammie and Yasmine are missed, Erika Eleniak exquisitely fills the red one-piece. Season one is a great nostalgia trip – all synths, mullets and montages – but the waves of familiarity won’t sweep over until the second series and the piercing scream of, “Some people stand in darkness...”
