Sweeping awards up everywhere it goes, Beasts Of The Southern Wild has proven itself a mini force of nature to be reckoned with.
Set in ‘the Bathtub’, a fictional delta community, we find six-year-old Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis) struggling to survive when her father Wink (Dwight Henry) contracts a mysterious illness.
After a storm threatens to destroy the community, Hushpuppy sets out to save it in any way she can and track down her wayward mother.
One of our favourite movies at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival (it made it onto our list of 20 Best Sundance 2012 Films), Beasts is an entirely unique urban folk tale.
It snapped up the Dramatic Grand Jury prize at Sundance before going on to win the coveted Caméra d'Or trophy at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival.
Meanwhile, diminutive star Quvenzhané Wallis is hotly tipped for a Best Actress nomination at next year’s Academy Awards.
If she’s nominated, she’ll be the youngest nominee in the history of the awards.
Beasts Of The Southern Wild opens in cinemas on 17 October 2012. Will you be going to see it? Tell us below.
