Ben Hur4

So epic that Jesus Himself only gets a third-act cameo, William Wyler’s 11-Oscar juggernaut may seem full of itself, but there’s a reason why it’s outlived its Bible-thumping peers (Quo Vadis, The Robe).

The acting is no less stiff, the jaws just as square, but Chuck Heston’s turn as the Jewish prince reduced to slavery before riding his chariot roughshod over the Roman Empire that adopts him is still a potent portrayal of individual vs authority.

Extras unavailable, but additions include a 78-minute Heston doc.
