Big Sur is Michael Polish's adaptation of beat author Jack Kerouac's autobiographical novel of the same name.
Jean-Marc Barr will play the writer while Josh Lucas will play Kerouac's friend and muse Neal Cassady.
After Walter Salles' 2012 adap of Kerouac's most famous novel On The Road, Big Sur will give movie audiences a darker side of the author's story. In contrast to the youthful, hedonistic Kerouac played by Sam Riley in Salles' film, Barr will portray the alcoholic, middle-aged man who holds up in a cabin in the depths of the Californian wilderness in order to detox, reflect and write.
Big Sur will premiere at the 2013 Sundance film festival and will be released in the UK later in the year.
