Bus Stop3

The film that proved Monroe could take on a dramatic role and win through. She plays a down-at-heel chanteuse stuck somewhere out in the boondocks, while Don Murray is the cowboy who falls for her. The film betrays its stage origins in some over-theatrical set-ups, and these days the latent misogyny grates. But it's worth it just to hear MM's lump-in-the-throat rendition of 'That Old Black Magic', lost and touchingly wistful.
