Michael Winterbottom’s feature debut is a bold but uneven stab at a Sapphic Badlands.
It hinges on Amanda Plummer’s bug-eyed performance as Eunice, a chain-wrapped loony who sucks Saskia Reeves’ drab petrol-station clerk into her gory homicidal rampage.
Winterbottom riffs on US road flicks but keeps the flavour strongly British (Ricky Tomlinson has a funny/ grisly cameo).
As a twisted love story and would-be tragedy, though, it rings oddly hollow.
