Entirely derivative (right down to stealing the fan shot from Apocalypse Now), Brian De Palma's war flick arrived at the tail end of a slew of '80s 'Nam films. Pint-sized lead Michael J Fox (as a rookie recruit squaring up against bad guy soldier Sean Penn) constantly strains credibility and interest crumbles long before Casualties Of War descends into a simplistic diatribe.
