“It’s a very French character,” grins Gérard Depardieu. “He fights, he eats, he loves!” The burly Gaul does the big-nosed poet full justice in Jean- Paul Rappeneau’s 1990 epic, repackaged here with observations from its star and writer in mangled English and recollections from its director in his native tongue. Not much to write to Roxanne about, though the film alone makes this worth poking your snout into.
