
It’s like he’s always been there, right? The miracle of the Who Christmas special is that it’s an institution despite being just three years old. None have matched the 2005 first shot, either, although this latest Titanic-in-space trip transcends the sinking feeling ushered in by ’06’s ‘Runaway Bride’ thanks to David Tennant’s buoyancy, some well-seasoned support and a Robots Of Death via The Poseidon Adventure set-up that nixes any Crimbo cosiness. Problems? There are scarce sparks between Tennant’s Time Lord and a so-so Kylie Minogue, the halo-hurling ‘Host’ are stiff red herrings, the ‘big bad’ is creaky and the Queen quip just drowns.
