Before the psychedelic excess of Sergeant Pepper, The Beatles really were fab: a boy band with charisma to spare. And, thanks to director Richard Lester’s ace pop art film – all jump cuts, screaming girls and Goons-like humour – the band’s youthful mop-top incarnations are recorded for posterity.
In a double-disc set packed with extras, it’s the doc Things They Said Today that stands out. Featuring interviews with key members of the cast and crew (sadly, no Beatles), it takes you through the entire chaotic shoot. Elsewhere, you’ll find commentaries and an in-depth interview with Beatles producer Sir George Martin. Fantastic.
