A Perfect World - DVD Review

Title
Extras
Some films slip through the cracks. It’s no reflection on them; they just don’t seem to stick in people’s minds. 1993’s A Perfect World is... well, a perfect example. Despite garnering strong reviews and making $135million at the box office, it’s now virtually forgotten.

In case you need reminding, this is the Clint Eastwood-directed tale of an escaped criminal (Kevin Costner) on the run from a determined Texas Ranger (Eastwood). Not only does it treat violence in a thoughtful way, but it also has a beautifully observed, cliché-dodging, father-son relationship at its core (Costner takes a small boy hostage). Clint delivers yet another commanding turn as the dogged yet compassionate lawman, while Kev’s restrained performance is one of the best – if not the best – of his career.

Yet no one remembers it. Let’s change that on DVD, eh?
