Waitress - DVD Review

If this was a pie – a pie with a kooky name like the ones waitress Jenna (Keri Russell) makes – it would be light and fluffy, topped with coloured sprinkles but hiding a bitter dark-chocolate heart. We’d call it our ‘Antidote To Vapid Chick-Flicks Pie’. This Mystic Pizza-style tale of food and female friendship in small-town America chews on unwanted pregnancy, spousal abuse and adultery. Add to this the tragic murder of director/support player Adrienne Shelly in 2006 (one of the disc’s five docs is a memorial) and you have a sweet snack soaked in sadness.
