He's richer, fatter and less likely to swear, but Eddie Murphy can still be as funny as he was in the '80s. At least, if you compare the buddy belly-laughs of I-Spy with this inconsistently amusing concert movie. Yeah, yeah, writing this is comedy sacrilege... But watching this "faggot"-bashing, "bitch"-baiting 1987 NYC stand-up, well, let's just say nostalgia isn't what it used to be. The Brooklyn blabbermouth is a bundle of cocksure charisma, but the ire aimed at women, gays and Africans would make Bernard Manning proud.
He is funny, particularly in an audience-unsettling skit on the inevitability of infidelity; just know some jokes may leave a taste as icky as the appendage he wants you to suck on.
