The Director: And with a heavy heart, Guillermo Del Toro did leave behind Middle Earth… Who better to take his place as Hobbit helmer than the very original hobbit himself? Jackson’s been key in shepherding J.R.R Tolkien’s epic vision from page to screen, having helmed the masterful (and megabuck) Lord Of The Rings trilogy.
He’s got stacks of style and heart, and he knows Middle Earth inside out (he created most of it, for heaven’s sake). Clearly, he’s the man for the job. If prior commitments (i.e. Tintin 2) don’t get in the way. Give this man a green light, pronto!
Hobbit CV: Duh, Lord Of The Rings. Also, he co-wrote the script for The Hobbit…

Only Peter Jackson should do The Hobbit. None of these other guys have what it takes. Except maybe Riddly Scott. Neil Marshal - f**k off..

please got not Spike f*****g Jonze. All I need is a five hour drab miserable indie-fest, while Frodo stumbles around middle earth on a camcorder while Beck B-Sides play in the background. Smaug would be played by Bill Murray though, so it wouldn't be all bad.

Can't believe you'd pick Marshall or Cuaron over Sam Raimi. He was in the running for the gig originally but got pipped to the post by Del Toro. He's a big fan of Jackson, and Jackson's a big fan of Raimi. Raimi's on good form post-Drag Me To Hell, he's worked in New Zealand before and with Jackson's FX company, and he'd be respectful of the source material. He said at the time that he'd love the job, he loves The Lord Of The Rings movies and thinks Peter Jackson is one of the finest filmmakers working today. So surely he's perfect? Plus, giving the job to him means we'd get Bruce Campbell as the dragon!

Michael Bay shouldn't be allowed into the same hemisphere as the Hobbit location. Last thing Hobbit needs is Smaug transforming into a tank and providing pointless Bay-splosions.

I'd have thought Neil Blomkamp would have the potential for middle earth greatness following on from District 9! It would make sense too, him and Peter Jackson are best pals and have worked spectacularly well together before!

Because it seems PJ is too busy, I'm hoping for either Sam Raimi or Alfonso Cuaron. Please dear god keep Ridley Scott away from it! Kingdom of Heaven and Robin Hood were s**t.

Tommy Wiseau could do it, filming HD and 35mm side by side!

I know it's a long shot but what about giving Ron Howard a chance, he's proved himself as a a very capable Director/Producer.

Why's no-one suggested the obvious choice? Mike Leigh.
