Gaze upon the glory of Nolan's latest…
Exclusive: Magic In The Moonlight behind the scenes stills
The Unhappy Christmas: The Grinch (Jim Carrey) gets his revenge on Whoville by stealing all of the town's Christmas presents.
Ask For The Receipt When: Dr Seuss' wicked imagination is transformed into random assemblage of overcooked, sub-Tim Burton art direction and Carrey in green face-paint.
How To Make It Delightful: The 1966 TV animation directed by Chuck Jones cuts to the chase in a brisk 26 minutes.

I found "Love Actually" pretty fun. Ok, I really didn't care about the story with Liam Neeson's Brat. But the episode with Colin Firth was quite nice...but it's Bill Nighy who saves this movie...he was, as usual, great! "Serendipity" (John Corbett's music scenes are hilarious) is a heart-warmer...yes it's cheesy...it's unrealistic, but also heart-warming...and aren't X-Mas movies allowed to be like that?....or isn't that even the point?
And "Trapped In Paradise"?? Jon Lovitz alone is already gold in that movie (or Cage's expression when he learns about the "news" when the family is telling him that the bank got robbed). "Fred Claus" was alright too...especially every scene with Giamatti in...(even though Vaughn almost ruined the movie). "The Grinch" is pretty much a modern classic....(it's because I'm green isn't it!!??). "Jingle All The Way" is definitely a guilty pleasure. And I seem the be the only person on the planet who actually liked "Christmas with the Kranks".

I really enjoy Love Actually. I think all the plots work, some poignant, some funny and some just really feel-good. It works on all levels!

I agree with Bandit1 and FBCd***son, Love Actually might be very slushy and sentimental but isn't that what you want from a Christmas film? It's become a Christmas classic with my family, and besides, everyone's mum loves it! I also agree with FBCd***son about the Grinch, I loved it when I first saw it and I still think it's pretty funny, and I don't know any children who don't love it too. I think a lot of people who don't like it are nostalgic for the original cartoon, but maybe I'm too young to appreciate that, I never saw it before I saw the live action version, the animation is rubbish and the whole thing seems very dated to me. Yes, I went there.
Also, Rent is hardly a Christmas film, but apart from that I've seen it both on stage and on screen and I do actually prefer the film (although purists might disagree with me) as it cuts some of the weirder parts of it (e.g. the weird orgy song in the middle) and tones down the operatic aspect of it (which I didn't find worked that well). It's not everyone's cup of tea because of the bohemian themes, but it's not a bad film by a long shot.
On a completely different end of the spectrum, Jingle All the Way is a terrible terrible film, but I still watch it every Christmas because it's so bad it's good. How can a film which features Arnie screaming the line "PUT THAT COOKIE DOWN!" not be awesome?

HOLD ON A MOMENT!! I REALLY LIKED LOVE ACTUALLY!!!!!!! ITS AN EXCELENT MOVIE!!!!
Nov 28th 2011, 15:58
I actually liked some of the movies on this list namely Just Friends, The santa clause 3 (its not the best but its ok), Jingle all the way and as a massive Jim Carrey fan, I love The Grinch. Also, from what I've seen of Love Actually, I thought it was pretty good
Nov 28th 2011, 16:29
Wow, how could you put Love Actually and The Grinch on this list? They should be on the list of greatest Christmas movies. These two are films that really gets you into the Christmas mood, which is exactly what a great Christmas movie should do!
Nov 28th 2011, 19:29
Love Actually is a great movie! What are ya thinkin'?!
Nov 28th 2011, 19:31
Another way to make RENT less miserable? Don't watch it.
Nov 28th 2011, 19:33
AND I love the Family Stone and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!!
Nov 28th 2011, 21:03
Gotta say, The Nativty Story, Serendipity, Polar Express, and Love Actually are all very good.
Nov 28th 2011, 21:17
Jon Lovitz is as about as funny as blue waffles and (if not previously mentioned) Santa Claus: The Movie was a barrel of bum gravy. That is all.
Nov 28th 2011, 22:34
they may all fall in love but over half of them dont get a happy ending. the married couple gets seperated, the guy is in love with his best friend, the woman has to choice her brother over the man of her dreams. so im not quite sure how the entirety of this film makes you gag but if you say so.
Nov 28th 2011, 22:36
and you insulted the holiday? wow.... im uh just going to disregard this entire list completely. especially because over half of these films are great. sorry.
Nov 30th 2011, 16:25
Love Actually is very good? Love Actually is fun? I really liked Love Actually?? Have I just stumbled onto a Women's Weekly website? It's no Die Hard, which is the best Christmas film of all time.
Nov 30th 2011, 17:54
Agreed Dan, this comments page needs a good dose of man the f**k up :p but joking aside, I think Love Actually being on this list is genuinely unfair...

Just to point ut..Love actually , every actor in Britain ....some americans ...And .Liam Neeson....An Irish Man,
Dec 2nd 2011, 11:11
Also The Grinch was pretty damn good, Carey was great in the role.
Dec 2nd 2011, 19:09
I like "The polar express".That one's a great film and does not deserve a place on this list.Jack Frost is good too.Is this done by a real life Ebeneezer Scrooge?
Dec 4th 2011, 18:28
Love Actually was one of the worst films of all time, the only film I asked for my money back at the end of which I was forced to stay for. A collection of c**p actors and Liam Neeson playing out a whole pile of different cheesy awful plots yeah that sounds great. The prats who liked that film are the reason it has not been condemed.
Dec 8th 2011, 0:05
The Grinch is not a bad Christmas film at all, Jingle All the Way is cheesy as hell but not bad at Christmas.
Dec 8th 2012, 17:25
I'm going to assume the person who made this list is jaded and also must hate older movies with heart. It happened on 5th avenue and pocketful of miracles might be a little cheesy but they have a wonderful optimism to them and they are filled with great character actors in both films. I don't know about you but I would rather watch these classic Christmas movies over any of the trite c**p they put out now.I would love to know what is the criteria for you guys to consider these movies "bad", since many on your list might have mellon collie stories but all of them have a good positive ending and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
by the way Prancer is a very cute movie as well and santa claus conquers the martians is a cult classic!! This list sucks!
Dec 21st 2012, 8:25
wait... wasn't love actually in TF's top Xmas films list????
Dec 21st 2012, 9:19
How on earth could you miss out Christmas with a capital C? Fools!
Dec 21st 2012, 14:30
Agree with Surviving Christmas being number one. Awful, awful movie. But shouldn't Bad Santa be number two? The fact it's not even on this list boggles my mind. It was terrible... Oh and The Grinch, Love Actually and Serendipity are all great movies. As most of the other comments confirm. = )
Dec 21st 2012, 14:32
(I quite like The Ice Harvest and Reindeer Games as well. But Shhh, don't tell anyone. It may damage my credibility.)
Dec 21st 2012, 14:40
I...uh..quite like ... The Family man, its something of a guilty pleasure. Urgh, not hating a Brett Ratner film is painful!
Dec 21st 2012, 15:37
At last ackwoledgement that Love Actually is a pile of c**p, stop defending it girls.
Dec 21st 2012, 21:51
This might be the only list you guys have every made where I disagreed with EVERY movie on this list some aren't even Christmas movies
Dec 22nd 2012, 10:02
No-one is defending Love Actually, it is commonly known as cinematic arsss gravy.
Dec 22nd 2012, 12:31
Eight Crazy Nights i s an all round treat to watch! its a festive Adam Sandler animated special, what isn't there to like?
Dec 24th 2012, 10:34
They really hat love actually don't they. I liked it and it has a 7.8 on imdb
Dec 28th 2012, 14:09
Good list, although The Grinch, Jack Frost and Jingle All the Way don't deserve to be on there.
Dec 31st 2012, 11:29
I love Prancer and its actually one of my favourite Christmas movies. It doesn't rely on any fancy special effects as most of these movies bit simply a sweet little story with charm. The moment at the end of the movie where the father reads Jessica the Christmas poem in bed (as her dead mother used to) is heart wrenching. Ps also love , Love Actually!
Jan 31st 2013, 22:38
I hate Love Actually and saw it on the recommedation of the morons on this board. Last time I ever listen to you. The OP is right - c**p actually.
Dec 9th 2013, 10:07
I like The Family Man. It retains a decent Christmas message and co-stars Jeremy Piven. Why didn't you put The Christmas Candle in the list? You just gave it one star
Dec 9th 2013, 11:58
Well TotalFIlm seemed to have changed their mind since this article: features/50-best-christmas-movies - They stuck it 50th in their 4th December 2013 Best Christmas Movies list.
Dec 9th 2013, 12:23
I was with you (mostly) until The Grinch and Jingle All the Way, both are fabulous Christmas films. On my list every year to watch. In fact a recent poll put them both in the Top 50 Christmas films ever made!
Dec 9th 2013, 13:28
I liked The Polar Express :(
Dec 9th 2013, 19:01
Sorry, but 'Love Actually' IS awful. The bad far outweighs the good.
Dec 9th 2013, 19:24
@poon03 - Love Actually was on the Top Christmas Films list, but as that was a different writer to this article, I don't see the issue.
Dec 10th 2013, 16:39
@poon03 and @DravenCage - Yes "Love, Actually" and also "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" were both on the top 50 best list and the top 100 worst list. However, they were both authored by Simon Kinnear. Just more inconsistencies we can see with Total Film.
Dec 11th 2013, 4:34
Die Hard 2 should be in there. Evin within the context of action or Christmas movies, it's eye-stabbingly moronic.
Dec 11th 2013, 9:44
Come on, it's Christmas.. There's too much to hate in this world without starting on Die Hard 2..
Dec 18th 2013, 3:05
I thought "Friday After Next" was a lot funnier than "Next Friday," but NOTHING can top "Friday."
