12 Cruellest Movie Girlfriends
They’ll cut your heart out with a spoon...
By Josh WinningMar 18th 2010Zooey Deschanel in (500) Days Of Summer
The Girl: Manic pixie dream girl, to be more precise. Summer is one of those chicks that men just can’t help falling for – she’s effortlessly cool, aloof without being mean, unattainable, untouchable as sea spray and gorgeous as hell.
The Cruel: In a word; apathy. Want another word? Try indifference. Alright, so they sort of both mean the same thing, but Summer’s lack of interest/enthusiasm toward Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s Tom is what breaks him.
Emotionally, she basically pulls his still-beating heart from his chest, pokes pins it, then stamps on it with her spikey heel. And walks a block with it still stuck there until it’s flat as a pancake and drained of life and hope.
In the words of director Marc Webb, “Summer isn’t a girl, she’s a phase.” Pretty tough phase, though.

You missed out Sarah Silverman's character in School of Rock! Whiny, demanding, issuing ultimatums and most cruel of all, insisting her man give up his love of music for a life of drudgery.

How about Sienna Miller in Layer Cake. Happily cheats on her dim boyfriend with Daniel Craig... doesn't end very well that situation, however I forgive her for that stockings and suspenders outfit..

Both good calls. Silverman was especially gut-wrenching - must've blocked that one from the memory banks as a survival instinct.

Well in Allie's defense, she didn't get the letters that Noah wrote her- her mother hid them. & she never really wanted to break up with Noah.

A little surprised by some of the people on the list, considering you left off: 1.) Jenny from 'Forrest Gump,' played by Robin Wright. OK - she wasn't exactly his girlfriend, but as one of my college buddies said after leaving the movie, "yo, dude. She didn't do him right." Nuff said. 2) Hatsue Miyamoto from "Snow Falling on Cedars", played by Youki Kudoh. Well, partly because no one saw the movie, but her sending Ethan Hawke a 'Dear John' letter saying "I don't love you," was one of those soul-crushing moments, because...not only do you not quite believe it...you can't believe she said it.

Can't believe the woman from Audition is not on here. She keeps an ex lover tied up in a sack in god knows what state, she drugs one guy sticks needles in his eyes - the guy is still conscious, then promptly saws his foot off with some cheese wire while cooing softly to him, before heading off to murder his son. Nice.
