I love your suggestion for the standout scene in the Pandora movie! :)

Pandora trapped hope within the jar before it could escape - the reading of what that means is up to you (Hope is all that keeps us going? Hope is just an illusion since the real hope is in the jar/box? Hope is a disease as well?) "Feminist readings interpret the jar as Pandora’s womb, arguing that the ancient Greeks didn’t favour female sexuality." Feminist readings would probably start with Hesiod's story in Theogony (the closest the Greeks had to a bible) that Pandora was the first woman and she was created as a punishment for man for accepting the gift of fire/how to cheat the gods of the best bits of an ox during sacrifice from Prometheus (Pandora being given by Hermes "a lying tongue and a deceitful heart" among other things). You really don't need to bother with subtext when it's text.

That 12th myth is actually part of the movie Kaidan (Kobayashi, 1964).

The 12th myth was also adapted into the "Lover's Vow" segment of Tales From The Darkside: The Movie, starring Jmaes Remar and Rae Dawn Chong.
