I know its not a film, but the one time i had something in my eye was watching the british TV show Medium.One of the main characters dies after spending the episode in hopital and is re-united with his son as they walk hand in hand into the bright light. If you can find he episode please watch it and you will see what i am talking about. Also WALL-E almost made me cry.

Harry Brown.. There aren't really any "tissues out" moments but the whole film has a grim undertone running through it.

Right at Your Door: I watched it on the back of Children of Men - two movies which don't have a high opinion of humanity, but at least CoM had a happy ending for one character.

I'd have to add Irreversible ('time destroys everything'..gee thanks for that), and possibly the worst offender for me, Breaking the waves (a movie which almost broke my brain and certainly helped me become an athiest).

As well as Johnny got his gun, plot can be found in Metallica' track 'One' (" landmine has take my sight/ taken my speech/ taken hearing/ taken my arms/ taken my legs/ taken my soul/ left me with life in hell") and silent running.. the end is a heartbreaker

+1 for Grave of the Fireflies. Classic Japanese Anime that Roger Ebert calls one of the greatest movies about WWII. I saw this once in theaters in Japan. Never again. Broke me down into uncontrollable body wracking sobs as a 12 yr old boy is forced to bury/cremate his 5 yr old sister who dies of starvation because of his own decisions and in-ability to care for them both led to her demise. Then I found out that the script writer wrote this movie about his own life in an attempt to deal with his guilt at the death of his own sister.

WTH? Sophie's Choice at number 14 and Requiem for a dream at number one? "The Elephant Man" is the most depressing movie ever. Everyone in the theater I saw it in was crying and over HALF of the audience left because they couldn't handle it.

The documentary "Dear Zachary" has to be the saddest movie ever made. Whoever made this list needs to see it right away. IMHO, it's much more depressing than any movie I've ever seen.

How can you do a 'most depressing' list and miss out This Is England? The first half is all merry and cheery but then it all just goes downhill from there! Also the first Butterfly Effect! That film had less 'tissues out' moments but definitely more 'reach for the razor' moments!
