Wow, never thought I'd agree with Colin Farrell on anything. Personally I wouldn't want any of these to play Bond. Cumbersnitch is just wrong on every level (he's an a*****e too). Brosnan was easily the weakest Bond so anyone that he says is a shoe-in should be completely ignored. I think Craig is the best bond in a long time and really hope that he continues for a couple more at least. How about we support him for once?

Michael Fassbender would be my Bond. But only if they decide to take 007 into the world of WWII espionage once and for all. Yes, I am completely playing on the Inglorious Basterds take for this one. But tell me I'm wrong. Wouldn't it be cool to see James Bond kick some Nazi a*s?!

I'm amazed that Pattison-related rage hasn't materialised yet! I don't think much of him as an actor but I didn't think much of Leo Decaprio when he was in his pretty-boy phase (Romeo & Juliet, Titanic... Was still too pretty to properly fit into Gangs of New York inspite of an alright performance) but look how fantastic he is now. Sure he showed acting chops in Gilbert Grape that Pattison can only dream of but we don't know how good sparkly boy could be in the next 10, 15 years. Wouldn't rule it out now. I'd like to see Fassbender or Richard Armitage in the role next.

I wonder in the acting community how much of a risk the bond role is seen as being. Sure, it would give you a massive audience and give you a place in celluloid history, but imagine being the actor who completley b*llsed up the role. Must be quite daunting the first time you slip into the tux.

I would like to see Jason Issacs as Bond but he's probably too old,. Any 40+ actor would have a limited shelf life. They should do a younger version with Bond fresh out of Oxford joining MI6, going through the training, it was touched upon in Casino Royale but only the first five minutes. Someone out of MIsfits or The Inbetweeners maybe... (sounds crazy but James McAvoy started off in Shameless).

@dalibab- Ewan McGregor, Jim Carrey, Sean Penn, Jake Gyllenhaal, James Franco and Heath Ledger are just a few examples of straight men who have played gay characters (ie, characters who sleep with men). It wasn't a big deal to them, and it wouldn't be a big deal to any openly gay actors either. That said, Ewan McGregor or Clive Owen would be perfect as James Bond.

Only one man should play Bond : Daniel Craig. For five more films! What's the point in changing the actor after only two or three films. Craig is the best Bond since Sean Connery (or should I say since Timothy Dalton, the eternally underrated but magnificent Bond), he's got the charisma, the humor, the physique, the sex appeal... and unless I'm wrong, everybody loves him in the role now. So why already speculate on something that won't happen for a few years. Connery made 7 Bonds (6 officials + Never Say Never Again), Roger Moore did seven, Brosnan four... Let Craig make at least five films and I'll be happy. By the way, on this list, only Fassbencer could convince me. Gosling and Hardy are wonderful actors but wrong for the part (Gosling is too young and Hardy is too heavy), Colin Firth could be good but I don't see him as Bond, I'll always see him as the Bridget Jones guy... not masculine enough. Clive Owen? Would have worked five years ago... Butler? Well I don't think he's a good actor at all and there are so many clunkers on his resumé that I could not imagine him as Bond in my worst nightmares. Pattinson? Of course it's a joke. Farrell? Great actor, not classy enough...

@dalibab- What are you going on about? Rupert Everett would be a fine James Bond. If you're a good enough actor, you can pull off a different sexual orientation. Zachary Quinto plays Spock, who is in a relationship with Uhura. A woman. And he pulls it off. It's called playing a character.

What the hell? I just said Zachary Quinto was a GOOD actor. I love Ian McKellen. Maybe if you, I don't know, learn how to read comprehensively, you could understand what I'm saying. They can play gay roles, and straight roles. WHY should they be pigeonholed into playing roles based solely on their sexuality? Wouldn't that exclude McKellen from being in Shakespeare? They can play gay roles AND straight roles, THAT'S what makes them good actors. And you do know what acting is, right? Playing a different person? And to go back to your original point, why not just compromise and make James Bond bisexual?

No, I actually was serious about a bisexual James Bond. Forget the argument and think about it. In modern times, it's far more acceptable to be gay then in the sixties. James usually has sex with people to gain their trust and get information. I don't see why he can't have sex with men.

You can't blame Brosnan, he had to deal with Madonna, an invisible car and hilariously bad CGI 'surfing', all in one movie!. Lazenby has been forgiven over time and OHMSS is considered one of the better Bonds. Which is no surprise, seeing how it has one the saddest endings of the series, no smug pay-off lines just a rather somber : "Really, its quite alright... we have all the time in the world.." Sob!

If we are doing lists :The underwater Lotus in TSWLM, the Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger and the AM Vantage Volante in Living Daylights are the best cars in the series. The Invisible car in Die another Day is the worst, and not a fan of the phone-controlled BMW in Tommorow Never Dies either, mostly on the grounds of fetish-like Product Placement .

Sorry if I went a bit Alan Partridge there, its just that I've always been a fan of the Bond Series. The one thing I hate about it is he always has the right gadget just for the completely random escapade he finds himself in, its like the Crane Kick in Karate Kid or EVERY END SPELL in Harry Potter. Altogether now .. "Begin the unnecessarily slow-moving dipping mechanism"

think Elba would be best of the bunch here but would they just be giving it to him as he has suggested just as he is black, surprised that Statham is not here although he cannt act i suppose, i know he is too old but on his recent outings would have been nice to see Liam Neeson as Bond

I know that no-one would be thrilled to see an american play Bond but I do think that Timothy Olyphant would be ideal for the part. The ruthlessness of his 'Deadwood' character combined with the total badassery of his 'Perfect getaway' character would be a sight to see. It'll never happen of course so I'd definitely go for Fassbender.

Benedict Cumberbatch is perfect for the role. However your write up under him is rather odd. He's never said he was perfect for the role. He's not yet filming the Hobbit. Please try and read up on your subject matter. Cumberbatch was excellent in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and as good as Gary Oldman in the film. Cumberbatch fitted the spy genre with ease. Infact his major scene in the film was the most exciting as critics noted. The franchise should be played by a Brit. Captain America was played by an American and the same goes for this role. Some actors like the Irish/German Fassbender are over exposed so I'd really not want him in the role. I do think its fixed for Hugh Jackman to play the role. Barbara Broccolli produced his play in New York (the one Craig also appeared in) and its not lost on me that he's suddenly gone vocal on the role. Hint hint. Jackman isnt a good enough actor to bring more to the role. Too lighweight. But maybe Broccolli just wants more of the same fluff. Cumberbatch would bring a new young geeky fanbase to the franchise. Women adore him as you can see on Tumblr. They are nuts for him. Men respect his ability and the Sherlock character is growing and growing in popularity world wide. If the producers were looking long term to an actor thats really on the way up they should invest in him. I saw his Creature performance in Danny Boyle's Frankenstein and it was superb. He's a very athletic charismatic performer. Which really are the characteristics needed for Bond.

If they intend improving the scripts and making the films less of a laughing stock then I;d go with Benedict Cumberbatch. If they continue to churn out the rubbish of Craig's tenure then pick any old actor. I bet Craig regrets saying yes. Top actors like Cumebrbatch expect to see good scripts before they sign for projects so I wouldnt hold my breath that he'd say yes. Maybe thats why the producers will pick an actor like Downey Jr or Jackman. They'll say yes to any old rubbish.
