In A Nutshell: Ridiculously early (1922!) silent-era study of the occult - its English title is most often given as Witchcraft Through The Ages - from pioneering Danish helmer Benjamin Christensen.
Why A Must-See? It's unbelievably atmospheric for such an early, monochrome, soundless reel of film. Several of the scenes were recreated as painstakingly accurate dramatisations, lending the film a deeply nightmarish quality - it really straddles the blurred line between reality and horror in its attempt to chart the murky, chequered history of heretics, demons and dabblers.
