Background: Barry Allen is a forensic scientist with the police. He is very slow, and quite often late.
When some chemicals he’s carrying are hit by lightning, they spill on him and give him both super speed and lightning fast reflexes.
He wears a red suit with a yellow lightning bolt on the chest and stores it in a ring.
Possible Star: Bradley Cooper was rumoured for the role, and we can’t think of anyone better for it.
Directed By: Edgar Wright. The Flash has to move fast and you need someone whose editing reflects that.
Film Version: The origin story sounds solid enough for a blockbuster film, the reason behind the suit less so.
Expect the movie Allen to go running as a hobby, who adapts his breathable Lycra to suit his superhero needs.

its fair to say DC has more rubbish characters than good, they should tap thier Vertigo comics for a better class of hero
Jun 17th 2011, 17:35
by the looks of it, i don't think any of the DC characters should be in movies

s*******t list so far! Shame on you, Total Film! The first half of the list was promising and I agree with it, but the rest was absolutely terrible and dull! Space Ranger??? WTF!!! Where's Captain Marvel? And most importantly, where is the Incarnation of Awesomeness LOBO???

And Nightwing? And Booster Gold? Damnit!

The suggestion for Chris Evans to play Azrael is just insulting. He doesn't fit anything, except that he is a relatively big name. You have to consider EVERY characteristic of Azrael, how he came to be. This sounds similar to Batman, doesn't it? OF COURSE IT DOES HE IS THE FOIL TO BATMAN. His origin has to begin with, uuuuuuuuuh, Batman. Just as well, his end comes with Batman. So consider everyhting, and Christopher Nolan is still the only possible choice for director. He has to delve into the deepest reaches of Azreal's mind, what made him the psychotic that he truly is. You can't make an origin without showing his consequence on Gotham- therefore, you can only make this a flashback, done extremely artistically. Do you think Nolan can't do that? He didn't even create a backstory for the Joker, and he still became the most fleshed out villian!!!
So for casting, I had to have thought aboujt this as soon as Bane was announced (GOD that is going to be amazing!). Nolan makes a choice from his alumni- JGL would be ideal, he adds alot to his character similarly to how Bale manages. Otherwise, Leonardo Dicaprio would be nigh perfect for the role. He adds confliction that can be subsided if the time comes for him to fulfill his mission, even to take down Batman.
In my opinion, there would almost be a better chance to have Robin/Nightwing stand alone in a story over Azrael.

But Detective Chimp is just an amazing idea. I can't even fully comprehend the possibilities AWESOME.

Dear Total film please leave articles like this to comic book and films experts as opposed to just you guys....guy ritchie doin the martian manhunter with jason statham...thats a dinner party joke right??
Jun 17th 2011, 23:47
If Ryan Reynolds hadnt done Green Lantern, he would have been perfect for the flash.
Jun 18th 2011, 12:49
Have stopped reading at Martian Manhunter.
This magazine, which I respect greatly, has a mind-boggling respect for Jason Stratham. To suggest he play such a cool character is worse than suggesting Ryan Reynolds for Green Lantern's Hal Jordan.
STRATHAM SUCKS. He is not a good actor, by any stretch of the imagination.

I really can't see The Flash working. Speed as a superpower never translates well to screen.
Jun 19th 2011, 13:43
They should stop casting big names in these films unless they can guarentee a stunning performance, ie Heath Ledger - Joker. I think Aquaman could be solid, I liked the way Banshee looked underwater in X-Men First Class so could be good.
Jun 19th 2011, 13:51
Also if they do make Pow-Wow Smith, they'll no doubt make him young with a Taylor Lautner esque acting taking the reigns.
Jun 20th 2011, 10:02
Speed does tranlate well, just look at The Incredibles or Smallville or the (albeit dated) bullet-time, Hawkman could work but would remind people of Brian Blessed in 'Flash Gordon' , Aquaman only fights evil if evil is swimming around? DO me a favour! And Gemma Atkinson should play Powergirl because of her obvious... 'talents' ...ahem.

I feel really guilty about this, but I do believe Total Film's idea for Power Girl is quite excellent.

Thank you for this article. There are so many DC haters claiming that DC doesn't have nearly any good characters. DC has great characters, but DC does not have very many films outside of the Batman and Superman franchises. DC can be somewhat protective of it's image (with the exception of the crazy world of Smallville--which I liked btw).
Whereas, Marvel has essentially sold it's soul to Disney. So I wish folks would stop giving DC such a hard time. That said, the recent X-Men film and Captain America appear to be decent. Wish I could say the same for Green Lantern.

Ok, I stand corrected. I agree with the other posters. You had me until "Red Bee" and "Bouncing Boy." It only go worse from there. Detective Chimp? Who wrote this article?

Azrael & Hawkman would be good, they others would mainly suck.
