18 Greatest Cannes Moments

Golden palms, glamorous girls, and Tarantino's middle finger...

1. Tarantino Flips The Finger (1994)
What happened: Trash classic Pulp Fiction nabbed the festival’s main prize from arty favourite Three Colours: Red. QT responded to crowd harumphing with a flashed finger.

Why it’s great: Because Cannes is loud and brash and dirty, and so is Pulp Fiction. The clash of American slouch cinema and Euro arthouse was a defining feature of the festival throughout the ‘90s, and brattish Cannes hero Tarantino’s stiffened digit summed up the whole period perfectly.
