Why It's The Best: The counter-culture classic sees hippy bikers Wyatt (Peter Fonda) and Billy (Dennis Hopper) cutting a swathe through the American Southwest, meeting a disparate bunch of picaresque characters en route.
Hopper and Fonda, who direct and produce respectively, perfectly capture a cross-section of a country at a crossroads, in a film that's as thoughtful as it is freewheeling.
Defining Moment: Wyatt, Billy and two prostitutes go off on an LSD-fuelled psychedelic trip.

As above...no 2001, Wild Bunch & Bonnie & Clyde...??? And being a British based magazine, where's the love for the great film "If..." by Lindsay Anderson??? And the inclusion of "The Italian Job" as one of the 30 best from the 60's??? Don't get me wrong, I love it and own the DVD, but better than 2001???

2001 was heavily overrated as was all of Kubrick's work. Every genre he delved into he was hugely outmastered by many others' Full Metal Jacket - Bettered by Apocalypse Now Casualties of War and The Deer Hunter The Shining - Bettered by every psychological horror Polanski made and even by the tv version, yes I said that. 2001 - Bettered by 2010 Eyes Wide Shut - Awfull Spartacus - Bettered by El Cid, Quo Vadis, Demetrius and the Gladiators

What @kman1958 said..."where's the love for the great film "If..." by Lindsay Anderson"!? It is I would argue better than at least half the movies given mention to on the list. That it wasn't included at all is either lazy "journalism" or ignorance, now choose...

Agree with Psycho being #1 it's an absolute classic! There are a few missing tho... Igrayne how can u say Kubrick was overrated???? The man was a genius "Is the moral of Icarus, Dont fly so close to the sun? Or as I choose to believe build better wings!" Kubrick flew to great heights with superb cinema, creating shots and techniques that great directors of today still use. He was a pioneer of cinema! FACT
