David Lowery’s timeless Texan thriller is a fine-looking showcase for stars Casey Affleck and Rooney Mara, playing young hooligans (and expectant parents) Bob and Ruth, torn apart when he’s locked up for robbery and she gets off scott-free.
Flash forward some years later and Bob has broken free, embarking on a quest to reunite with his family. But it’s not just the lawmen he has to worry about – it’s the mysterious, pistol-wielding ne’er-do-wells on his tail.
Lavishly shot across the sun-kissed Texan countryside, Saints owes more than a debt to Terrence Malick – especially in the lyrical, walking-through-a-field opening sequence.
It also moves at a glacial, patience-testing pace, preferring to jettison the big set-pieces (the heist and jailbreak) in favour of the moments inbetween, according to the director in a post-screening Q&A.
A Marmite film, then, but one with talent and vision in spades.

Of course, in the real world, most porn addicts wouldn't bag someone like Johansson. At least I think. You'd more than likely end up with the 50 cigs a day 30 year old with 17 kids who looks like she's 55.

I truly cannot give a s**t when people say Radcliffe is good in a movie, it is physically impossible.

Fruitvale won the Grand Jury Prize and should definitely be number one; i was there in the theater during the first showing of it and everybody was in tears.
