The Book: Malorie Blackman’s five book series is set in a Britain of deeply entrenched racism, in which the black-skinned majority (known as “crosses”) enjoy dominion over the white-skinned minority (known as “noughts”). Against this backdrop, a Romeo and Juliet style romance begins to flourish between young protagonists Sephy and Callum.
Potter Factor: Much of the story is set at Heathcroft High, an exclusive school in which the politics between noughts and crosses knock pure-breed / half-blood tensions into a cocked hat.
Dream Cast: Richard Madden and Ony Uhia took the lead roles in The Royal Shakespeare Company’s acclaimed stage adaptation. We’d love to see a movie studio given them the chance instead of bussing in some bigger names from Tinseltown.
Directed By: Racial tension meets explosive action? Sounds like a Spike Lee joint to us…
Radcliffe Cameo Potential: A blink and you’ll miss it appearance as a Heathcroft sixth-former.

Since seing Expendables I have thought that despite being too tall, that Dolph Lungren would be a brilliant Butler for Artemis Fowl!

Noughts and Crosses is a superb book, they should definitely adapt it into a film! I remember reading a book series by Meg Cabot, I think it was The Mediator series? Very cool books, and I've heard that theyve been picked up for a film?

I was once recommended a book called Lord Loss and although I didn't finish it I remember that be quite good. Also met an author called Andrew Lane at this s****y place where I used to clean tables. He had written a series of young Sherlock Holmes novels. One that definitely needs a mention, although not exactly the next Harry Potter is a film adaptation of Private Peaceful - which is apparently now happening :)

There would be something amazingly referential about Radcliffe cameoing in any film of Cassandra Claire's books, given that she's arguably best known as a Harry Potter fanfiction author who hit the big leagues.

The Bartimaeus trilogy is also something I'd love to watch on the big screen, as long as it doesn't end up like the Golden Compass or Inkheart, both of which were rubbish films and awesome books.

How have I only remembered this?! Steven Gould's Jumper and Reflex would make amazing films, that is of course so long as a director like Doug Liman doesn't hack it up again...

The Skulduggery Pleasant series of books are brilliant because - like the work of Philip Pullman and unlike the work of J K Rowling - they don't talk down to children/young teens. Landry's books don't sanitise the story by removing any mentuion of violence or blood, if someone gets stabbed, they bleed. The movies would I imagine be aimed at a similar age group to the fanbase of the books, so I would think a 12 cert would be the best we could expect. This would mean that most of the things that make the books so good would have to be cut from the film and we'd end up with another series of twee kids films that play at maturity like Harry Potter.
