The Poster: One of several teaser posters released as part of the superlative viral marketing campaign for The Dark Knight, this sinister image of the Joker is the pick of the bunch, knocking the official burning-building image into a cocked hat.
Why So Great: “Why so serious?” is a brilliant tagline for a start, and the fact that it’s daubed in blood amps up the sense that this is going to be a distinctly adult affair. Plus, we love the tease of showing the Joker without properly revealing his face.
How Representative Of The Movie: In poster as in film, the Joker’s gruesome sense of humour is the star of the show…
Who Would Hang It On Their Wall: Banksy, a man who appreciates the effort required to disguise one’s identity.

The names on the bat in the Inglourious Basterds poster are not dead Nazis but instead the names of loved ones etched on by the Jewish citizens from a Brooklyn neighbourhood. It's from a scene they cut out - after buying the baseball bat, Eli Roth (aka Bear Jew) goes round his Jewish neighbourhood asking the inhabitants to scratch on the names of friends and relatives that have died or been lost in Nazi-occupied Europe.

The skull in the centre of the Death's Head moth on the Silence of the Lambs poster is made up of dead naked chicks, just to add to the overall creepiness!

The reason for the tagline on the Raiders poster "Return of the great adventure" is because this poster was used for the re-release.

"LEON 94" A face shot so close up, but still distant as his sunglasses/goggles hides himself but show us his panoramic view too a city. A lost soul as everything else towers above, Oh how posters reel us in,

A great list of some great movie posters! Some personal favourites of mine that aren't included in the list include Sin City's Nancy poster, Spiderman 1's world trade center poster, Enter The Void's poster, Shawshank's (Drew Struzan's most notably, even though all of his posters are amazing) and Oldboy's. Also, as dav1d mentioned, I really like the Leon face shot, close up poster as well as the poster of Leon and Mathilda walking down the street, with her holding her teddy bear and him holding his plant!

RE the Phantom Menace poster... Great poster, but a shame this never occurred in the film (to my memory) Instead, Anakin's 'Vader Shadow' appears in Attack of the Clones when he visits the Lars farm. Check out his shadow on the wall before he climbs on the speederbike to go find his mother. There's a reason he has that t**t-ish little bunched ponytail on the back of his head...

Hang on a sec - I prefer the cracked Natalie Portman Black Swan poster to the one on here. A little too retro considering the tone and content of the movie...
