The Movie: Ghostbusters (1984)
The Amazing: He’s a 12-storey-tall campfire snack, what’s not to dig?
Plus his existence constitutes a beautifully observed bit of brand satire from Dan Ackroyd – hands up if you assumed he was the mascot for a real foodstuff...
Of course, the closest thing to Stay Puft you’ll find on the shelves of a 7-Eleven is the Pillsbury Doughboy, but that all-too-probable deliberate misspelling kept the more gullible amongst us scouring supermarket shelves for most of the 80s.
Genius Detail: The creepy-cute rictus grin adds an exquisite chill to Stay Puft’s downtown smashathon, but above all we love the fact that he’s vulnerable to being toasted just like a regular-sized marshmallow.
The lesson here? Just because there’s a 100-foot confectionary demon smiling through penthouse windows as he crushes central Manhattan, there’s no need to abandon logic entirely...

Normally when you take a still of a special effect (especially with CGI) you can start picking it apart quite easily. It's amazing that the still of the T-1000 looks so incredibly realistic. Cameron's special effects in that movie are absolutely flawless, even in this day and age. I kind of forget that from time to time.

I agree. After more than 20 years the likes of The Thing, Aliens, American Werewolf and Predator are still more convincing than the recent CGI shyte-fest of VAn Helsing, Mummies, REsident Evil or the UNderworld travesties..I just hope the recent 'Prequel' to The Thing continues this standard.

Yeah, I'm actually quite looking forward to the thing prequel. The bootleg trailer (although very hard to make out whats going on) looks pretty good and I've heard that initial buzz has been positive. Can't believe that it was supposed to be released on my birthday but now has been pushed back to October!

So you've got "The Ring"'s Sadako but you haven't got your woman off "The Grudge" (forgotten the name...Kayako?) who, by the way, can suddenly pop up when you're in bed and drag you under it, not to mention move down the stairs like a staring, permanently-croaking white spider with jerky limbs?!! Hello, she's the reason I have to turn lights on when I go up to bed at night!

Yeah I remember the night I saw the c**p (but still scary) US remake of The Grudge we had a powercut and I was absolutely crapping myself just looking for candles.

Woah woah woah "Keeping the gross fish-pig more or less out of sight throughout much of the early film" in The Host? The thing has a f*****g rampage through the city within ten minutes of the opening credits!

What about Pumpkinhead or the Kathoga from The Relic, both brilliant creatures created by Stan Winston.

The lack of Pyramid Head from Silent Hill is conspicuous and disappointing... Also, it's "Jason Voorhees", with two "o"s.
