Good list! Although surprised to see Die Hard 2 and not the 'shoot the glass' scene from the original, slightly more memorable IMO. Bare feet+ glass = Arghh!! Oh and the bit in Star Wars before the slide into garbage or the Barge fight in Return of the Jedi! Ok, thats enough..

There's a cracking shootout at the end of State of Grace.. all in slow motion but you get a real sense of how powerful the guns are.. If you haven't seen the film then check it out as it's brilliant. Good list though

Aw, no Usual Suspects boat raid? Regardless, ace list.

Ok, I understand any given list of (insert number here) best of is purely subjective since no two people have the same opinion, cause we all like to see our favorite movies make such lists. But I am super surprised the epic shootout towards he end of Terminator 2 : Judgment Day where Arny just demolishes the L.A.P.D. without a single confirmed kill did not make the list. I am also surprised that no scenes from: Dick Tracy RoboCop or The Fifth Element made the list cause there are some truly great epic shootout's in all three of those movies.

I'd have suggested the Nepalese bar shoot-out scene in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Guns never sounded so loud as in that moment of the film. There's a reason it won a Best Sound Oscar!

I'll go further than Chris and argue that the omission of the mind-blowing climax of State of Grace is a crime for which Simon should not go unpunished. Any shoot-out list that doesn't include State of Grace is faulty. Total Film's competitor managed to include it on a Top 10 list - that's 40 slots less than Simon had to fill.

The final shootout in Proof of Life definitely deserves a mention. Also surprised by the lack of Raiders, as well as the lack of the Ramelle sequence from Saving Private Ryan. I would also add the final shanty town shootout from District 9, the shotgun brothel shootout from Rolling Thunder, the kitchen shootout in La Femme Nikita, the final estate takedown in Bad Boys II (I know, I know), the one take(ish) house destruction scene from The Book of Eli. Also, in what is one of the finest action sequences ever -- the subway fight/ensuing shootout in Total Recall. Arnie, and Verhoven at their best. Might not be a bad idea to add the diner scene from A History of Violence, and perhaps the school girl shootout from Battle Royale for good measure. But I guess that's all a matter of opinion. I still really enjoyed this list. Brownie points for the Open Range nod, very underrated film.

kinda surprised that either the opening, or the closing of The Devil's Rejects isn't on this list... i wouldn't say put it near the top... but, it should definately be on there... two of the coolest shootouts i can recall in recent film :) but, that's just me.

All right I was on board with this list until I noticed the unforgivable omission of Rambo and The Expendables. Not even one Stallone film is mentioned, talk about a crime! Also, what about Bad Boys II? It's nothing but 2 1/2 hours of shootouts. P.S. Anton Chigur doesn't get into the shootout with the cattle prod, he uses a shotgun with a customized silencer.

The final slo-mo shootout in Mr and Mrs Smith should have been on the list, not to mention the harbour scene in The Usual Suspects.

at least you got number 1 CORRECT. but what about the other De Niro's actioner, Ronin?? that's THE action movie of the 90's. it's got both awesome shootouts and car chases. the shootouts may not be as great as the one in Heat, but, it belongs right there in at least TOP 5. The Kingdom shootout shoulda been higher. as well as Tombstone's version of OK Corral gunfight. what about other westerns...The Long Rider and Silverado..?? i think they got pretty good shootout scenes. i definitely wouldn't include anything from die hard or lethal weapon flicks...for they're not really shootouts, but more of gun battles. does that make sense...??? lastly, i agree with State of Grace's finale. that's a pretty powerful shootout scene.

darn!!! almost forgot....CARLITO'S WAY!!!! the central station shootout...come OOOOOOONNNNN.... like Michael Mann, De Palma seems to know how to stage a thrilling and memorable shootout scenes. the one in Carlito's Way is tense and just all-out beautiful, man.... it should be in the top 5, as well. oh, and if someday there's a list for the most suspenseful scene...the pool room scene should be in TOP 2, at least.

How about Copland where Stallone is def in both ears and takes on the corrupt cops with his buddy Liotta coming through to help him in the end? The guy who said Battle Royale was also on to something. The Devil's Rejects has two epic shoot outs, but you got The Way of the Gun right(deserves higher) and your number one pick is spot on.
