Great list, and I agree 100% with your 'Paradox' for "It's a Wonderful Life", but I would have rated "Time After Time" (an underrated gem) and "Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure" much higher.

would've expected terminator at the top, though i did like the japanese 'summer time machine blues' and 'my sasy girl' had a little time travel in it. but both are better than some of the more dubious entries on the list though obviously not as well known

Excellent list. As for Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban's paradox, in the books it's explained Hermione finally comes to her senses and drops a couple of classes to have a regular course load. And then in the fifth book, they actually end up accidentally destroying the Ministry's stock of time-turners. But yes, in the movies it's unexplained.

This is a fairly extensive list however there is one film missing which is a time-travel classic: The Final Countdown (1980) - A modern aircraft carrier is thrown back in time to 1941 near Hawaii, just hours before the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. Check it out, worth the effort!

Total Film's Simon Kinnear doesn't seem to know what paradox means. He should not use the word. Also, here are a few answers: Superman is not reversing himself, only turning back The World while he is in SPACE and that mythological reasoning works for me. BTTF - "Calvin" tells them at the end his name is Marty and they like the sound of it, so it's not much of a "biggie" if their youngest baby eventually looks like the boy he is named after. BTTF 2 See "the ripple effect" which makes all BTTF movies possible; it presumes there is a chance of return and resuming life (in 2, they only really need to listen and get information about HOW Marty's family ended up losers again - chicken - so it can be avoided. They don't HAVE to DO anything in the future. The almanac screw them up. BTTF 3 - there is only one DeLorean: struck by lightning, left in a cave, picked up by Marty and 55 Doc, taken by Marty to 1885 and pushed by a train only to be destroyed on the tracks in 1985. ST (2009) Spock Prime could always warn Reboot Spock not to let Kirk abandon Khan on Ceti Alpha V, or remind him that VI will blow up years later so they should settle somewhere safer. But Reboot Spock really doesn't need to know how the other timeline went. That's the beauty. T2 Cyberdine did make the Terminator, which traveled back to 1984 and left its severed arm in the crusher and Cyberine found it and learned from it enough that they advanced ahead of schedual and experimented with liquid metal robots. No paradox at all, just logical continuity.

There are several glaring and unforgiveable omissions from this list, some of which are detailed below. Granted they may not be masterpieces of cinema but they are certainly no worse than many that are listed. 1. The Two Worlds Of Jennie Logan 2. For All Time 3. The Flipside of Dominick Hide 4. Another Flip for Dominick 5. The Love Letter

just to point out terminator 2 is set in 1996, despite the fact that the movie only mentioned this once and very quickly

I'm not having any problems with this list so far... but a nitpick I'd like to leave is that H.G. Welles ends up in 1979 LOS ANGELES, not 1979 London. His reaction to a McDonald's is priceless.

For years now I have surfed the world-wide-web and have come upon movie list such as these that list Time Travel Movies. I have always found them to be very helpful. But what always amazes me is that everyone seems to overlook one of the greatest movies of all time that involves time travel. This movie might not center directly around time travel like the all-time great "Back to the Future" but it does have a moment that can revel even the mighty "Galaxy Quest" with its omega 13 device that everyone seems to place on their lists. Let's all take a travel in time together in our own minds and remember that moment when we watched the movie "Field of Dreams"........ Yes' that’s it... Remember the moment when Kevin Costner's charter Ray Kinsella travels to Minnesota with character Terence Mann played by James Earl Jones in search of Archibald Wright "Moonlight" Graham. There is a moment when Kevin Costner character slips back in time to the year 1972 and meets the older Dr. Archibald 'Moonlight' Graham played by Burt Lancaster. It is here in that moment that this movie should not only be remember for how great it was, but that it also deals with time travel (even though they got the year wrong). It is my wish and desire to spread the word from this moment on the the movie "Field of Dreams" be placed upon all similar list and properly ranked among time travel movies. Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day. RJC3RD

Evan blacks out at the same time in his life because that was when his life took a turn for the worse and he wanted to change things.

This list is neat. I think that "Primer" should be number one though. That movie (in my opinion) gives the most realistic view of actual time travel and what would happen if you were to do so.

Only two or three fresh ones. Although many on the list are great, so many more were missing. "Millenium" (1989) for one.

btw OMG the Primer chart helped so much!!!! (being serious, no sarcasm. that movie was one of the most intentionally confusing movies i've ever seen. American Psycho, Donnie Darko, got nothing on Primer)
