A nice list! Great to see "Smokey and the Bandit" here (a personal favorite) and "Vanishing Point" ... even I would both rate them much higher. "Bullitt" is a classic, nice to see it rated that high. Of course I missed some. "Convoy" has some fun chase scenes, as does "Joy Ride" (aka "Road Kill"). The start of the original "Mad Max" is pretty classic too I would say. A car-chase-only list would be fun (...or do I remember you did that already???). That list could easily have 100 entries...love them car-chases....

Or: think about it a little longer and make a really good top 20.

Okay firstly this list is upside down. Road Warrior and French Connection are better than Jurassic Park, because they were done for REAL. The JP looks good, but there is no element that those involved are in actual peril, since it is CGI. Where is the Bourne Supremacy? Taxi vs Mercedes? Spiderman 2 train. Lethal Weapon final foot chase. Pah!

"Stuntwoman Zoe ‘The Cat’ Bell plays a dangerous game called ‘ship’s mast’, which involves her clinging to the bonnet of stuntman Mike’s (Kurt Russell) supposedly ‘death proof’ car."
Actually she rides on the bonnet of the 1970 dodge challenger that she's "interested in buying", while stuntman Mike chases them in his second "Death Proof" car.

Good calls with Raiders and Goldeneye, though totally missed the best chase sequences of both. In Raiders the best of the movie was the truck sequence; Indy chasing ark, Indy chasing Nazi's, Nazi's chasing Indy.etc. The boulder moment is no doubt iconic but as far as chase sequences go it is second best in the movie itself, never mind this list. And for Goldeneye, the tank chase through St Petersburg anyone? I rememer seeing Goldeneye in the cinema and everyone there groaning with dismay at that plane scene! Thankfully the rest of the movie did not dissapoint ....

Got to disagree about Ronin. With all the obvious CG smoke effects any reality in the chase sequences are ruined.

Some very dodgy choices in this list!! My biggest issue is that you listed To Live and Die in LA at 25, 25!! The car chase in that film has never been bettered before or since it was comitted to celluloid. It lasts for about 15 minutes and it is a pivotal scene in the movie. Not only is it exciting but the scene totally defines the different motives of the two protagonists!! One being the ultimate action junkie and the onther a total wannabee!! Take another look!!
Some good'uns, but I woulda liked to have seen Brick's foot chase, and possibly M:I4.

Hmm, not sure about JP being number 1. Many more on this list are more iconic, surely. What about Ong-Bak as well? Best foot-chase i've ever seen.

HMMMMMMM not a great fan of this list. No Bourne Supremacy? However, there are a couple of non-chase sequences in there. Since when is the facehuggers sequence in Aliens a chase???
Sep 12th 2012, 15:00
A couple of epic jungle chases are missing here; Predator and Apocalypto. Pretty sure the last 45 mins of each is practically a chase across bracken, stinging-nettles and dog doos....

Came to make sure The Matrix was there, awesome to see Scream 2 there. That soundbooth set up was great.

"Surely one of the most original and exciting chases on this list"
OK, so why is it number 50 then. Plus no Aardman chase scenes. C'mon Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run and Pirates! all had amazing chase scenes.
Sep 12th 2012, 18:22
theres 3 i'd like to have seen: 1) the x-files fight the future where they're being chased through the cornfield by helicopters, may not be the most exciting chase but memorable
2) any chase in tremors but especially the one where they have to escape by pole vaulting across rocks
Sep 12th 2012, 18:24
3) the scene in 28 weeks later with rob carlysle escaping the barn with the infected appearing over the hilltop after him and with john murphys amazing score it really adds to the creep factor
sorry, not barn i think it was a farmhouse :)

Some good choices but would've liked to see the opening chase of 'Narc' in there
Sep 12th 2012, 18:52
Good list, although I disagree with Jurassic Park being listed, especially at #1. I agree with Hotspur1882 with Raiders truck sequence and Marc96 with 28 Weeks Later. I personally would like to see Chigurh chasing Moss from the motel in No Country for Old Men somewhere on the list as well.
Sep 12th 2012, 19:06
@ nostrebornod omg yes! great call with No country for old men, that was a great chase
Sep 12th 2012, 19:18
Blues Brothers really should be a lot higher
Sep 12th 2012, 20:19
Totally agree with Drive, but it should have been much closer to #1!
This list needs The Town, Se7en, Inception (opening chase), Taken, 28 Weeks Later and Animal Kingdom (chasing Craig through the field - highly emotional)
Sep 12th 2012, 21:48
Cannot believe Bullitt is 2nd to JP, some dodgy choices in this one. The T-Rex doesnt even chase anyone in that scene, the chase scene comes later with the gas powered jeep and the "objects in mirror are closer than they appear" moment. or in JP2 when they've got the baby T-Rex in the car.
Bullitt should have been number 1 chase scene. you have none of Bourne's car chases (the one with the mini or in the taxi). even the chase scene in True Lies with the motorcycle and the horse is a classic. dont think i saw Blade Runner, Taken, Chariots of Fire, Mission: Impossible 4, Die Hard With A Vengence, Ferris Buellers Day Off, Heat, Master and Commander, No Country For Old Men, The Godfather, The Matrix.etc
But...I do like a good list
Sep 13th 2012, 0:48
Inception van chase scene, the chase scene between Dodd and Leonard through the trailer park in Memento
Sep 13th 2012, 8:18
Chase scene in Bad Boys 2 with the carrier truck flipping the cars of and Mike and Marcus in pursuit in their Ferrari is great......
Also the final chase in Bad Boys 1, Footchase across the buidling in Enemy Of The State, Hummer chase cross San Francisco in The Rock......
hhmmm too much Bay
Sep 13th 2012, 11:44
I'd include Iron Man being chased by War Machine and the Hammer drones before some of these chases... I mean, JP? Really? And Blues Brothers deserves top 10 at least for not only being a ripper of a chase but for taking the p**s out of the device at the same time.

Also Notable Chase movies you might have left out are
2-Enemy Of The State
4- US Marshals
5- No Country For Old Men
7- Shadow Conspiracy
8- The Bourne Identity & Supremacy
10- The Next 3 Days
