In Unforgiven, Clint Eastwood played William Munny... not Gene Hackman, he played Little Bill Daggett.

I already thought the "Ghostbusters"-Proton Pack isn't going to be here. Was glad to see it that high! It would have been actually nice to hear all these FX...maybe a YouTube-Link. Of course many I could recall, but on some it would have helped...

Think Dr Manhattan from Watchmen when he teleports should be in there as should the Predator roar/scream.

There's a couple of classics you've left out.. Tie Fighter scream.. and also the start up noise of the engines in any Spielberg movie, it's difficult to describe but you must know what I mean.. the plane does it in Raiders.. Honourable mention should go to the sound effect used for Bond's gun. Very unique sounding effect. Good list though

@ASmileSoDevious - Cheers for that, don't know how I messed that one up! @LukeSweek and @ChrisWootton - Great suggestions, keep 'em coming! I also love the sound Mystique makes when she transforms, and that ridiculous 'ching' knives make in horror movies.

Robocops' legs. You don't see first time out, but you know by the sound of him walking around, he is going to be all kinds of bad a$$.

@Hadouken76 - Good call. I was really wary of Star Wars overload. That series has so many phenomenal sound effects, though, we could easily do a list of 50 of them! @ChrisWootton - I love the Terminator skeleton sound. Also from Aliens, the Alien Queen's screech... talk about ear-piercing.

Definitely.. See what you mean about Star wars overload, I was just thinking of more and the original trilogy is basically full of them. The Thing scream always freaks me out.

Hadouken76 - Robocop's legs. Ha! I spent a good portion of my childhood doing the walk and sound. I still do it when I walk through Ikea just to freak people out.

Thats more like it - cracking list. Thought the light-sabre would be numero uno, but good call with the Wilhelm scream. It's great when you hear that in a movie and instantly think "that screams been used loads of times". I love the fact it gets used in pretty much any genre of film too - it's not just a 'comedy' scream that's put in by film-makers as a joke. Couple of other ones (mainly pointed out on QI!) - the frog 'Ribbett' commonly used is apparantly a sound-bite taken from frogs in LA and is not what most frogs actually sound like.....Also, the 'Silencer' and the 'Pfft' noise it makes, used in most action films (I'm looking at you Mr Bond) is apparantly another movie myth - supressed guns are still supposed to be quite loud, yet nearly all movies go with a quiter sound.

Can't believe you didn't mention the squeaky gate sound effect... It get used just as much as the The Wilhelm Scream. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcLrmmLcKDA.

@Hadouken76 and @joshwinning. If you weren't going to use R2, maybe Wall-E would have a been a great inclusion?

When I was younger I thought something was going on with that same scream I kept hearing in different movies. Then about 5 years ago I discovered the truth; the Willhelm Scream. It's legendary; shame they didn't stick it in The Dark Knight Rises.

Dumb and Dumber has some amazing sound effects in it. Check out the incredible noise of the snowball thrown directly into Lauren Holly's face. Amazing, and of course the toilet scene...
