    The Fly 2 should be on here. The scene when he puts the mutant dog to sleep is the most heart wrenching thing I've ever seen. Definitely more touching and affecting than a lot of the moments on this list. The fact that it's in a slightly dodgy (but still enjoyable) sci fi horror doesn't make it any less emotional or worthy of inclusion.

    Here's what Chandler Bing had to say about Bambi's mother's death : "Oh yeah, I was really sad when the guy STOPPED DRAWING THE DEER!"... Chandler Bing cracks me up... Another recent heartbreaking scene is the one in Biutiful where Uxbal (Javier Bardem) and his brother discover the embalmed and very well preserved body of the father they never knew and who died so young they look much older than him... Don't know why but that scene got me by the throat. Couldn't stop crying...

    I would have thought Saving Private Ryan would have been in here. The scene on the beach and Corporal Uppam's death upset me. Also the Death of George Kirk in Star Trek (2009) was a tear jerker. Kudos for making Schindlers list 2nd and Up! 1st. Up! was really sad :(

    Its not a movie, but the death of Senna in the documentary was tragic. What is sadder, is that Roland Ratzenberger was killed the day before. Unfortunately, last week motorsport claimed 2 more lives..RIP Dan Wheldon and Marco Simoncelli.

    I can't believe 'The Mist' was left out of this! Without giving away spoilers, it is possibly the most heartbreaking end to a film I have ever seen, it literally left me sobbing like a baby! I would also personally add the moment when Luke Skywalker burns Darth Vaders body in Return of the Jedi, that killed me as a kid (and still does).

    I agree about George Kirk's death. Probably the one thing that gets me each time I see it. Amazing for a character you only know for a few minutes.

    GREEN MILE!!!!!!! and for some reason shallow hal when he sees the kids in the burns unit at the hospital got me choked up too

    The Fountain. The entire final 45 minutes of The Fountain makes me sob everytime I watch it. And Wash in Serenity.

    @dropdeadsam- I'm not sure who you are thinking of but Cpl Upham dosn't die in SPR. he is one of the 2 survivors along with Reiben.

    The ending to Dancer in the Dark is very bleak and I found it incredibly emotional to watch as Selma condemns herself to death without speaking of her innocence. Also, an ex girlfriend of mine used to cry at the BEGINNING of The Notebook cos she knew what was coming at the end!

    Where the hell is The Never Ending Story? You know, The Swamp Of Sadness? Artax sinking? For a kid's film it was too much for me to handle! Or how about A Bullet In The Head? The scene where Tony Leung (I forget their character's names) finds his childhood friend and decides to end his misery by shooting him in the head, then his friend move's the gun down to his chest instead, (After years of getting slapped about the head) always puts a lump in my throat!

    Where's the Godfather part II?? Come on, there's so many scenes in that movie that are just absolutely heart-wrenching! For me its a toss up between the ending where Michael (Pacino) sits alone after having Fredo (Cazale) killed; and another Pacino-Cazale scene, where Michael 'forgives' Fredo at their mother's funeral but looks at Neri to let him know that Fredo isn't really forgiven. On a side note though, I'm happy Grave of the Fireflies and Biutiful made it onto the list. They're both very moving films and I feel like they don't get enough love; but I would've gone with different scenes. For Fireflies, I think the scene when Setsuo sees her older brother getting beaten up for stealing food is extremely sad. What makes it so much worse is how she tries to comfort him afterward. And for Biutiful, it would be the warehouse scene plus the scene when the bodies are found washed up on the beach.

    The final scene in Hana-Bi where Takeshi Kitano takes his dying wife to the beach. Sad and a little shocking. Totally agree about Never Ending Story too. I remember when I was a kid going to the cinema and crying my eyes out to a half-hour short feature (in the days when they showed them before the main film) about a kid who brings his dog back to life after it was hit by a car. Having searched in vain, I stumbled back upon it after it appeared as an extra on The Nightmare Before Christmas. The film was called Frankenweenie, the director was Tim Burton and it was meant to be a black comedy. Still gets me today...

    Would have picked what Harry saw in Snape's tears or when his parents come out of Voldemort's wand as most tear enducing moments in HP, also thought ET would have been higher up, but on the whole I mostly agree. The opening of 'Up' was a real surprise and definatly gets ya!

    Definitely the ending of Hair, when we realise Berger has gone to Vietnam instead of Claude, and The Flesh Failures jump in; when the camera focuses on Berger's grave and then zooms out to the thousands of graves there are in the cemetary, it's time to get your tissues.

    Up, The Elephant Man, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Kes, Brokeback Mountain....total agreement. The ending to Dancer in the Dark completely did me in - I was in tears, and that might be the only time I've ever cried at a film. I totally agree with the first poster about The Fly II - that dog bit really broke me up! Yoda's death in Return of the Jedi was a total heartbreaker - I think it was one of the first instances of someone dying of old age (and with acceptance of it too) on screen that I ever saw. True, he was 900 years old, but still... also Withnail's monologue at the park after he's said goodbye to his only friend in Withnail and I.

    Atonement needs to be on this list! At the end of the movie when you find out that the love Cecilia (Keira Knightly) and Robie (James McAvoy) deserved but never got to have, my heart sunk and I cried unbelievably. So happy Harry Potter made it in, however, Dobby deserved a spot as well.

    Deffo The Green Mile "I sorry for what I done" should be on here, as should the mutant dog scene in I Am Legend. The film was average but that scene had me welling up big time!! Also, someone mentioned above about when Vader is burned on the pyre, very sad, the force has come full circle.

    @mrfixit426, I agree. I cringe everytime I open Simon Kinnear's lists. He is consistently ruining them with his so-called "witty" remarks. I just stopped reading the "If it were played for laughs" comments after the first few. Totally unnecessary.
