    It's crazy to think that the Passion of the Christ (albeit funded by lethal Weapon 4/his own money) can be classed as an "indie" movie when it had a budget of $30 million.

    "(500) Days of Summer" not successful enough to count then? $7.5m budget, almost $61m back? Shame. Didn't realise "Open Water" and "TPotC" were indies though...

    Very good list.. Specially liked the inclusion of budget; those criticising, I think indie is dictated by whether it's independantly released, not how much it costs, the two just happen to go hand in hand. Though I must agree that both Evil Dead 1 AND 2 should've been on here.

    Independant means it was financed independently as in by Gibson himself so it is the very definition of an "Indie movie". I love seeing films like The Passion of the Christ and Terminator up there, it winds up all these sad little t***s who think that all films are made by Hollywood just because there is a Warner Brothers logo at the begininning of a film. Also most films are financed and owned by Jews so they are not Hollywood films at all really, technically they are Israeli. Rivers Edge should have been there and Dune.

    The most independent film of all time is "Rocky" Sylvester Stallone put up his own money out of his wallet to make this film. Because none of the big studio heads believed in it. They did not think the general public would relate to the story or find it believable, boy were they wrong. It was all shot in his hometown of Philadelphia with minimal crew and ended up being one of the greatest films.
