Quite a few of these are from films advertised as 'Based on a Real Story' So I'm not sure how it was ment to come as a surprise that they were real people.

Number 51: Arthur Dent The Character: Main character in the Hitch Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy Radio-show; TV-series & movie The Inspiration: Simon Jones, close friend of the author Douglas Adams. Artistic Licence: He actually voiced the character for the radio-show and portrayed him in the TV-series. According to Jones, Adams telephoned him when he was writing the pilot to ask whether he would essentially play himself; Although Adams later stated that Arthur Dent was not a portrayal of Simon Jones, he wrote the part to play to Jones's strengths as an actor.

Numbskull, I work as a proofreader and occasionally the odd mistake slips past us (see my post above in which I failed to notice my own typo). It's good to know that people are concerned about the accuracy and quality of content on the internet, but please, relax.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman's character in The Master is maybe based, but most definitely not, on the founder of a religious/spiritual/philosophical movement, which whilst most definitely isn't a cult, does share some similarities.
