This is a great list! You even got some from those really obscure movies from my childhood of which all I can remember today is the death scene.

Those Nazi deaths in Raiders really messed me up for a time. I know they were the bad guys, but face melting off? Cue nightmares.

The death of Atreyu's horse made me cry for 2 days straight. My mom took me to the cinema to see that and I just couldn't understand why the horse didn't want to move. I still can't watch that scene. It makes me cry manly man tears made of beer and kung fu.

How about 'The Champ' - that killed me (and still does). And more recently, the beginning of Up - my Daughter was in peices watching that :(

Dark Crystal scared the c**p outta me anyways. I remember sitting in the cinema with 200 bawling kids when Optimus Prime died. Was weird, even though he was my favourtie, it didn't effect me that much. Neverending story was horrendous. Scarred doesn't quite cover it when the horse died!

Very good list, with excellent comments. Thank you. (But yes, 'Up' should have been in there too.)

Optimus Prime was my ultimate childhood hero and will always be #1 for me. Honorable mentions for all the other autobots who died on that movie: Ironhide, Ratchet, Prowl, Wheeljack, etc...

Good call on Batman Returns. I had to leave the room whenever that bit came up. Nice to see the severely underrated Tarzan getting a shout out too.

My 6yr-old son watched The Neverending Story for the first time this week and was bawling his eyes out when Atreyu's horse died.

It kind of only seems right that Rasputin should die about 900 times at the end of Anastasia - considering how long it took people to do him in for real.

All the way through I was waiting to see where Watership Down would be.............it's there at #6, but the wrong death!! It's Hazel's death (peacefully, of old age, after a good life) that's the (ahem) killer. Every time I see it I think 'I'll be fine this time' and every time I sob like a baby............ And yes - Up should have been high on the list too.
