Some I would add: William Wallace and his wife Murron in "Braveheart" didn't really live happily ever after. And then "Love Actually" (I know the movie's cheesy...but it's that time of the year soon, Bill Nighy is gold in any movie and "Rick Grimes" is in there too): the almost love-story between Mark (A. Lincoln) and Juliet (K. Knightley).

Pretty sure that in The Wrestler Marisa Tomei rebuffs him, which is why he goes on the night out that causes him to miss his day out with his daughter, who then tells him to 'do one' forever.

I would add Hancock to this, and possibly Serendipity. Stories about fate always tug on the heartstrings! but surely the number one saddest story of all time is missing from the list entirely; the tale of Carl and Ellie in Up!

Nice! I would only add Reynold's "Count of Monte Cristo", De Sica's "I Girasoli" and Serendipity.

I would add P.S. I Love You for the fact that he's dead right at the start. Also, for foreign language movies, Eternal Summer (Chinese) and No Regret (Korean) have to be some of the saddest I've seen, both dealing with the heartbreak of falling for someone you aren't supposed to have in the eyes of society.
