'The fire. The horse. Kenneth Branagh and a load of photoshopped supporters. It’s just a travesty.' Impressed they were able to photoshop the supporters in...especially considering Photoshop wasn't released until the following year...

Yep, there are some really rough posters you got there, but quite a lot here that are iconic and even some that are good. I think you had a tough time getting 50 here, try harder.

Nice feature, but is it really necessary to find 50 of all these? It goes the same for top 50 Best Football Moments in Film. How many more can their be than that, really? Also, so wrong about Breakfast at Tiffany's. On every level.

Eh? Hard Boiled? I reckon a fair number of film buffs and action fans have that poster on their walls.

Good list, but on some I have to disagree. "Big" and "Groundhog Day" are some modern classics. Watched them countless times...and I never thought there's anything wrong with the posters. Hanks' grin fits the child in him perfectly...good match for the movie I would say. I liked the poster for "The Descendants"...a good movie and I would say the poster fits it very well. The poster for "Shawshank" I liked very much...even it gives away the ending pretty much. But it shows Andy at the moment where he's finally free....great shot, I like it. I agree on "Spiderman" though....and it's also pretty much spoiling it to everybody....they show that Peter Parker is actually Spiderman....omg! One of the worst here was "Blues Brothers" ... brillant movie! But the poster...what the hell? Thankfully there were other and better posters around for this cult-classic.

I think 'the Descendants' shouldn't be in there, together with Tinker Tailor, Goodfellas and Breakfast at Tiffany's. There are a lot of posters out there that are a lot worse.

dont complain with Goodfellas, look at the Braveheart poster: Sophie Marceau dominate it. Where the hell is Catherine McCormack? and Shawshank, Field of Dreams, Harry met Sally etc. unnecessary in this list. these posters are iconic.

I created an account on Total Film especially to tell you that this is the worst list I've ever seen. 'Brick'? 'The Departed'? Cracker posters. Also, stop with the top 50. I saw a 'Top 50 Will Ferrell Moments' lately....why though?

Was about to stop reading when I saw Star Wars, granted Luke's six-pack has always been hilarious... but when you went and included The Matrix; 'If we didn’t know this was one of the coolest films ever, this poster wouldn’t convince us.' THIS IS what the film contains! Lots of leather, smoke, shades and people standing in outrageous poses with guns, CONSTANTLY! So saying the film is cool, but then criticizing the poster's contents and delivery (I don't think they can effectively capture how good bullet time looks in stills) is just silly. If they'd gone and 'photoshopped' Hugo Weaving into the back, snarling and look devious, then maybe - but they didn't!

It really is a terrible list. The Star Wars poster is deliberately B-Movie stylised and looks cracking for it. That's just one among many posters here that actually either look great or effectively convey a sense of style about a movie.

You can hardly call Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol a "Great Movie". Just saying.

Disgraceful attempt to fulfill a headline brief, including that Star Wars poster just highlights the completely misguided attempt at film history and a real lack of writing skill, this reeks of desperation and childish sarcasm. Tinker Tailor had a beautiful poster campaign, the shawshank image, while cheesy, perfectly encapsulated the tone of the film, and as for your reasoning behind Goodfellas flaws is petty and has nothing to do with the poster design itself.

the fighter poster is actually really good; the movie really isn't even about fighting/boxing, it's about the dynamic between the brothers and the family. so really they shouldnt be fighting on the poster

Star Wars? Really? One of the most iconic movie posters of all time and you have a problem with it? Not sure what the rest of the list holds as I stopped reading right there. When did the writers for this website turn in too middle aged menapausal women??? Seriously.

Just Terrible... a serious man: you could go out and remake this poster with a camera and a roof in seconds ? ok. You guys at TF dont know a s**t what a Coen Brothers Movie is about. and Descendants's Clooney, not looking at the camera? that is the point...idiots

I love when Total Film makes posts about this! However, I do agree that movie posters do miss the mark sometimes and I think it's a pity because it contributes to deciding if a move is going to good based on a cover. Although we hear, "never judge a book by its cover", I don't think it's true for movies. I don't see any Saul Bass movie posters in this category. Also, I really dislike when movie posters are pulling from a scene in the movie. That isn't creative in my book.

There are a lot of great posters here(Breakfast At Tiffany's, The Matrix, When Harry Met Sally and Star Wars). I would also like to know who decided X-Men: First Class and J Edgar were great movies. This list is pretty pointless.
