Nice list. More scary/gory/bloody lists please! The scares of Sloth in "7even" and the old woman in "The Orphanage" were great. Also good call on the first "Saw". That mask is still one of the best Horror-masks in the younger Horror-movie history. The one in Jurassic Park was so obvious though. Also "The Shining": Great movie, but never scary. Your choice in "The Descent" wasn't jump-scary at all for me...I would still choose the classic scene of the crawler when he first appears behind the woman. Also the No.1 I never got...good fun, but jump-scary? Never did it for me... It's also nice to see "Ghostbusters" here. Even though in the second movie, the scene with the heads in the underground, was scarier to me when I was a kid.

That was a nice list. I'd have included the climax of the blood test scene in The Thing, Franklyn's (the wheelchair guy) death in The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and Dick Hallorann's death in The Shining too, mainly because those are scenes that have made me jump even after multiple viewings. Probably because there's so much tension in the moments leading up to them. Hidden should have been in the top ten though. That scene still turns my face white.

Nice to see The Exorcist 3 getting some appreciation. The only scene from any of the Paranormal Activity films that has actually made me jump is the one in the PA3 when the guy's wife leaps out the wardrobe. It was a good reversal of the monster in the closet cliche and in my opinion, a surprisingly clever set-up for the third film in a franchise. I'd also nominate the moment the creatures attack Billy's mum in Gremlins as a solid jumpy moment. You know something is coming, you just don't know when, or where from.

Can people please stop referring to the girls from The Shining as twins!? Am I the only one who actually watched that movie?

The final scene in Trainspotting where Born Slippy comes on nearly gave me a heart attack I got so worked up. It's terrifying in a different way.

Great list, but I'm going to be really anal and say that the spiderwalk sequence in The Exorcist only appeared in the Director's Cut. The freakiest bit of The Exorcist for me is the near-subliminal shot of the demon's face during Karras' dream sequence. Kudos for including that bit in The Exorcist 3 as number one, though, it's totally unexpected and really terrifying. I couldn't sleep for weeks after seeing the LOTR scene, too. I was 23 at the time.

No Salem's Lot? The bit Barlow appears into (and completely devours) the frame in the woods is a gem, and even better is when he appears in the prison cell. Big jump!

Exorcist III definitely scared the hell out of me and the film was not even that good, also the Gemini screaming scene before he casually apologises, bloody terrifies me even to this day. Don't Look Now was not a jump moment it was just freaky and completely stupid. Any film Julia Roberts or Keira Knightely are in is a jump moment, I jump out of my chair to turn the film off so I do not have to witness the pair of adolescent talentless chimps attempting to act.

The first facehugger in Alien made me jump more. With all the coughing and struggling you know somethings gonna happen in the chestburster scene

I would have included the scene from Jaws where the 2 men are out on the boat at night, and they're searching the water, and a dead man with a very white face appears very suddenly from the dark of the sea. Also I would have included another scene from 'The Others' where the two children are hiding in the wardrobe and the grandmother opens the wardrobe and you see her in full for the first time.

Always wanted to see an article like this, I shall be careful when watching some of these films in future lol. My additional contenders would be: The blood test in The Thing (1982), the alien in the shaft in Alien, Beth at the hospital in Black Swan, Rust's flashback in Frenzy (the music!), Prof Trelawney/Hermione scene in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, those creatures that attack Harry in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the snake in Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events, Norman Osbourne's brief flashback in Spiderman and first appearance of the creature in Super 8.

Hey FBBScannella, that Jaws scene is #2 on the list! One that's missing in my opine is another Spielberg effort. In JP2, when Ian's girlfriend and daughter are in the wooden shed and the raptors are digging under the door on one side of the shed and the girls start digging in the dirt to get under the door on the other side of the shed to escape, then Julianne Moore has the wherewithall to check if the coast is clear, she does, it is....then she goes to crawl under the door and BANG! the raptor sticks his head in!!!! Caught me the first time. Man, I must have seen that film al teast a dozen times in the theater and every time after the first I would go to the back of the theater as that scene was approaching just to see all the people list up in their seats in unison!!! GREAT MOMENT!
