The Bad Date Movie: Kate Hudson and Ann Hathaway prove that women just can’t help but turn into psychotic backstabbing wackos at the first sound of wedding bells. How very modern.
Impact On Your Evening: That ring will be staying firmly in its box. Sorry girls.

I'll see your list and raise you 'Oldboy', which one of my ex's showed me as a date movie. Nothing to bring a couple closer together than incest and hammers.

Um...I'd really recommend you take down the picture for 9 Songs. You do know what she's doing to him in that pic, right?
Mar 1st 2012, 9:45
I'd argue that Zooey Deschanel doesn't play a b***h in 500 days of summer... she's, just not that into him.
Mar 1st 2012, 9:48
She mucks him about something rotten, does she not? Perhaps I'm being a bit harsh - just remember really taking against her in that movie...
Mar 1st 2012, 9:52
Yeah she was a twisted b***h in that film. I remember feeling pretty sorry for JGL.

I think "American Psycho" is more likely to send my MAN running than me, I'll be honest... and as good as "Blue Valentine" is, I wouldn't watch it with him either.
Mar 1st 2012, 10:52
I actually ended up watching BLUE VALENTINE with my recently broken up with EX GIRLFRIEND! (who was still reeling emotionally from the break up)... I was monitoring her during the film, she tried to hold it together, then outside the cinema totally lost it.. :( not fun times... but i had it coming really.

@euanmcgrath Wow - you're currently leading the field in the masochism stakes. More stories please folks!
Mar 1st 2012, 12:08
@gwales I made my other half watch "The Prestige". He got thoroughly mindf*cked by it (despite it not being that huge a mindf*ck, really, compared to other films). I like to torture him by saying, "Shall we watch 'The Prestige'??" He figuratively wets himself when I do. >:D
Mar 1st 2012, 12:23
@MikeyRix Presumably you've got Nolan's whole non-Batman canon to threaten him with!
Mar 1st 2012, 12:27
If a guy in my age bracket ever suggested Breaking Dawn as a date movie without having a damn good explanation (job assignment? drinking game?), I'd be breaking speed records trying to get some distance between him and me.

Surely Martyrs would kill any romance on a trip to the cinema? Eraserhead too. Good to see Dead Ringers on there. A great movie but not best watched in the company of a potential lady friend.
Mar 1st 2012, 12:41
There's Misery too. It's got scenes of torture that are up there with some of the other films on the list. Most girls i know love it though. Do they see kathy bates character as some strong independent female role model type?
Mar 1st 2012, 12:50
@gwales... My girlfriend at the time decided to give The Human Centipede a go with me, as I had said I was interested in watching it. She was doing ok, until the notorious scene where the front of the centipede needs to use the bathroom. Needless to say after not saying anything throughout the film, she quietly says. "I think that's enough now." Quickly followed by. "I worry about you sometimes."
Mar 1st 2012, 13:30
"I think that's enough now" - presumably she wasn't cross with you, just very disappointed...

the war zone?
Mar 1st 2012, 15:15
@Jrdnsans1792 ... ouch... one for the whole family surely!
Regarding 500 days of summer.. Only from his point of view.. besides he was quite annoying himself with the whole needing to do something more fulfilling with his life and then not doing anything about it until she leaves him. I watched Martyrs recently with my other half... it wasn't an easy watch. I saw Snowtown (excellent but harrowing) at the weekend and actually told her that she shouldn't watch it.. that could be a potential date killer as well. Nutty Professor 2 managed to end a relationship for me. I just couldn't be with someone who enjoyed it as much as my ex did...

Whoever forgot Irreversible from this list...

Last House on the Left (Original)?
I Spit on Your Grave?
Mar 1st 2012, 20:38
where is "Misery"?!
Mar 1st 2012, 20:42
yeah "Irreversible" so N°1!! good thinking @ohdannyboy11304
Mar 1st 2012, 20:57
@gwales Yep. Just wait til he sees "Memento" *dances with glee*

Bit of a random selection. Honestly, what couple (outside of the BNP and KKK) goes to watch something like Schindlers List or Devils Rejects thinking they will leave with a warm fuzzy feeling? Also, anything with Shia la Beouf would freeze a date in an instant.
Mar 4th 2012, 14:06
The Notebook is an excellent date film. I had a very fun night following it, although that might be because we switched Mission Impossible 2 OFF before hand haha!
Mar 5th 2012, 0:39
What kind of person would put his date to see Man Behind the Sun, Irreversible would have been something more aceptable.

My girlfriend and I have a good percentage of these films and we married last year. But if you make it through Daredevil on your third date, you can make it through anything

"Audition" by Takashi Miike surely should have been in there. The first half bored my girlfriend and the rest just disgusted her. She did comment that it teaches you a thing or two about the dating game. I just thought it was a brilliant film

This film should be number one. Ugly Truth is one of the most mean spirited and offensive movies of all time. It has an intense cynicism to the point of being sickening as it essentially says that all stereotypes about men and women are one hundred percent true and that all people are awful. Even if this was a good movie, which it is not, it is extremely hateful and will ruin a date. At worst, the couple would buy into the film and become suspicious of each other and at best it would just leave both of them with an unpleasant feeling. This movie is the love equivalent of anti-matter.

Who the hell takes their date to a documentary? That just kills the mood instantly...
I personally would've placed (500) as number 1...
And...I like 6 days 7 nights...at least I used to...
