The Romcom: Reporter Ike Graham (Richard Gere) chases after serial altar-absconder Maggie Carpenter (Julia Roberts).
Biggest Mistake: The unfortunate subtext - normality can only be resumed by making a free-spirited woman get hitched.
How To Make It Work: It took nearly a decade to reunite the Pretty Woman co-stars. Perhaps if they'd been quicker they'd have bottled some of that film's lightning.

Well, a lot of turkeys on this list. But, of course, on some I have to disagree: *You've Got Mail" is pretty decent, not a classic like "Sleepless In Seattle", but still. And "What Happens In Vegas" is the only watchable Kutcher-movie I know. "Sweet Home Alabama"...as simple the storyline is, had it's moments and charm. And the song Sweet Home Alabama is a classic (at least in the Skynyrd version), it's been overused in movies and media though...and "Freebird" is better. I also found "The Ugly Truth" pretty ok....

Pretty Woman has to be by far the worst rom-coms in the entire history of film. The basic message being all women will love you if you buy them a nice dress and jewellery, and that the life of a prostitute is a fairy tale waiting to happen. Complete bolloques.

Agreed H. This list should really have just been a list of Matthew Mahogany and Kate Hudson films. My personal fave-hate is 'Ghosts of Girlfriends Past'. vomit in DVD form

I also liked "You've Got Mail", but more for the side characters than the central plot.

I have to be honest, I kind of liked Bride Wars. However, I do see it's misogynist undertones. HOWEVER, some women do act that way. Not all but some do.
Regardless, I kind of liked it. You know what is bad though? Something Borrowed. The only thing that made that movie remotely good was John Krasinski's character. He was the only one that had any damn sense in the film.

Surely "My best friends wedding" should be included, had to suffer through it on a flight to the US, and you could probably lump all the other Julia Roberts romcoms in with it.

There are some real stinkers on this list, but I think "You've Got Mail" is pretty decent. Thee are some others that I must admit I do like. Not great films by any stretch of the imagination, but I enjoy them all the same. I can forgive the ones I do like appearing in this list, as "Swept Away" is very near the top. What an absolute stinker of a film.
