7 Books That Could Be The Next Twilight

Vampires, pirates and demi-gods, bound for the big screen...

BY Dan Goodswen May 14th 2009 8:08AMFILED UNDER: Features

With the Twilight sequels currently filming, we're wondering which book series will be the next to hit the big screen.

Industry analysts were caught off-guard by Twilight, underestimating how screaming teenage girls can influence box office.

With studios clamouring to bite off a piece of the teen-lit action, book properties are being gobbled up faster than you can say 'Robert Pattinson'.

Here's the books we're tipping to be the next big crossover movie sensations...

Vampirates

Author: Justin Somper

The pitch: Grace and Connor are recently orphaned twins living in Australia. Not wishing to be taken into adoptive care, they set sail on their father’s boat.

When the boat sinks, the twins are rescued by two very different vessels; Connor by the pirate ship Diablo, Grace by the Vampirate ship Nocturne.

The pedigree: The Vampirates series has been in publication since 2005, and has built up a dedicated following.

In case you missed it - yes, 'Vampirates'. That's pirates who are also vampires.

Books in series: Four, plus one short story

Web presence: 35,100 hits on the Googles.

Big screen potential: Pirate vampires? Can we book our tickets now?

Next: Percy Jackson And The Olympians

I hope they get someone good to direct The Artemis Fowl books!

Plus, you should have The Darren Shan Saga on there. Vampires - totally different to Twilight ones though - and witches and DESTINY. Those were huge a few years ago!

the Tally Youngblood series (four in total: Uglies, Pretties, Specials, and Extras--although Extras could be left off the list) would make an awesome saga! The heroine is also a female who's strong-willed and adventurous! =)

Nice to see my two favorite series' up there, as most Artemis Fowl fans can say, we've been waiting for aaaages for the film!
Right now though, I would have to say Vampirates is my winner, fabulous books, and forget it being the next Twilight, Vampirates would surpass it by a mile! (or 2, or 3...or 10)

what about Muddle Earth?! It's f*****g awesome and would be great for adults as well as little kids thinking it's Lord of the Rings (as I did when I bought it). Dreamworks to make a 3-D version faturing the voices of Will Porter and John Cleese
