7 Movie Working Titles We’re Glad They Didn’t Go With

Because Annie Hall's better than 'It Had To Be Jew'

We love movie titles. Whether they're eleborate, like Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind or simple, like Star Wars, they're mostly brilliant.

Working titles, on the other hand, are rubbish. Don't believe us? Get your eyes around this lot...

Black Mask

What about the gimp? Pretty sure he wore a black mask. Still - obscure nonetheless...

"his breakout hit"?????? There are so many things wrong with your statement so let's try to get this step by step. Hitchcock's breakout film was a silent picture called The Lodger (1927). Between 1927 and 1960 (when Psycho came out), Hitchcock directed such hits as The Lady Vanishes, Rebecca (which won an Oscar for Best Picture) Shadow of a Doubt (his favorite film), Lifeboat, Notorious, Rope, Strangers on a Train, Dial M for Murder, Rear Window, To Catch a Thief, and North by Northwest. Implying that "we would have never seen Vertigo" had not been for the the "breakout" of Psycho is also false because Vertigo was release in 1958. Please tell us that this article meant to be a joke or at least assure us that they don't pay you to write total nonsense.

SCQ47, I was hoping it'd be clear that entry was a bit of a joke, as obviously Psycho wasn't his break-out hit, and everyone knows it came after Vertigo. Also, Wimpy is famously not the working title for Psycho. I'm sure Hitch wouldn't mind, he loved an occasional prank. I do get paid to write total nonsense, though. :)

Sam, Rarely does one run across a decent film historian and/or critic here in the "States." We also lack humor over here. Next time throw in a fart joke or wear a fat suit so we know when to laugh. You have my full "tail-between-the-legs" apology, sir.
