A remake of the ‘70s Burt Reynolds prison flick, Mean Machine swaps gridiron for footy and moustachioed hard-men for cheeky cockney chappies.
It’s not an outright disaster, with the climatic match played out in a surprisingly well done sequence, but the tone is muddled, with gentle laughs interspersed with the odd bout of shocking violence.
It’s a difficult trick to blend Porridge with Scum, and director Barry Skolnick never really pulls it off.
Statham is fun however, playing psychotic keeper The Monk with a suitably starey-eyed mania. He might not say much, but he still manages to make off with every scene he’s in!

This guy is a terrible actor and even the films where he's not the main star, turn out not to be very good.
This list is ridiculous. Crank, Crank 2 and The Expendables are his best...that says it all.
What's his appeal? He truly is a bad actor.

Oh come! On its refreshing to have an action hero who is British and funny as well! Hes a Gorram sight more convincing than weak-sauce like Orlando Bloom or Jude Law trying to be heroic. Yeah hes done some tripe but which actor hasnt? Friday night movies like Transporter or Death RAce arent suppose to Oscar-Worthy just something to kick back with a pizza.

Did not like any of the transporter films they were all the same!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Crank is just daft!! Death Race was quality n Lock stock n s****h classic!!!!!!!

I don't care what anyone says I think Statham is fantastic, he is my favorite actor going. His movies entertain. They are not rocket science, but they are the reason you go to the movies in the first place. I own the majority of his movies on blu. I hope his star shines bright for a long time to come. Keep up the awsome work. People need to stop being so judgmental and watch his films for the entertainment not the science!

OMG the first tiny little bit of grudging love for The Expendables! Well done TF!

i don't care of what anyone saysm but transporter is a really fun movie to watch and entertaining and it's pack with a lot of BS and i love it...

To be honest, I would say the best movies I've seen Jason Statham in would be 's****h' just becauseits a great movie or 'Collateral' with Tom Cruise, because he's only in it for ten seconds. I've seen a few of his movies and he seems to be playing the same character in every one of them, wouldn't it be refreshing if he wasn't beating someone to death with their own arms for once.

To the poster who thinks that if you don't enjoy Stratham films "just for the fun" then you're only in it for the "science": that's BS.
I can enjoy films that range from something like Dogville and Sling Blade, to something like Dodgeball and Night at the Roxbury. I love action.
I don't like Stratham films because his films, vehicles for him, are always p**s poor to awful. He's an absolutely awful actor and his voice is totally ridiculous. There are ways of making an action film, which is also fun, but which is also...well written, well made and well acted.
I would imagine his supporters are mostly teenage boys, who aren't the most discerning of viewers.

I think his films are great, I watch a movie to be entertained and to escape into another world for a few hours before getting back to normality and finishing the washing up! Weather or not the film I choose is a well known classic such as goodfellas or an Oscar nominated future classic such as avatar or , my favourite all time film, pulp fiction, some thing a little lo fi such as lost in translation or even, gasp, one of the transporter films, it's all for one purpose, to be entertained and asfar as I'm concerned (99%) of his films do just that! And mr clearwriter, I'm not a teenager, I'm a 30 year old film lover.
On a slightly different note, has any one else noticed that the screen shot for Transporter 3 that is shown above is in fact a screen shot from the second film when he is in the lambo chasing the private jet! I love total film, but really, sort it out fellas!

Really? Night at the Roxbury is discerning? Most people think its comedy anthrax
Jan 30th 2011, 19:28
Statham's the next Action Hero for sure...... I have a love hate relationship with him some of his movies are good s****h' The Expendables and Death Race to name a few but Crank and Transporter are just plain daft! ha ha

When I use the word discerning, to describe the largest portion of his fans (how I imagine anyway) I am of course referring to the fact that they will no doubt be pleased so long as there is, swearing, sex, violence and very, very little talking involved.
You'd be right about Night At The Roxbury, but of course the majority aren't always right, otherwise Stratham wouldn't have gotten this far. I was trying to show that I can enjoy something designed for pure entertainment and I'll give it to you, Roxbury was a bad choice.
No more of this sh*t though. Stratham does not, in any way, shape or form, create characters. He puts on a gruff voice (sometimes in an awful American accent, one of the worst) and kicks and punches. A 30 year old liking him. Sure. I didn't think that was impossible. I'm sure he has fans in their 80's.
What do his teenage fans have in common with older ones? In my opinion, they haven't seen many good films and constantly, without question, seek out the "just for the entertainment value" films.
Hey, whatever. The guy still sucks and so do his films.

You'll be surprised to learn that not all teenage boys resemble the speccy one from 'The Inbetweeners'. They dont pay to watch some Iranian boy looking for his bicycle or french people discussing past affairs in a quiet voice..or whatever passes for entertainment at 'The Guardian'... They want heads flying off, things exploding, exposed ladylumps, blood splattered mayhem, of course teenage boys seek out entertainment value because they want to be entertained!

clearwriter-----To let you know I'm not a teenager I'm 41.... I like what I like, PERIOD! I happen to like alot of different movies from The Longest Day to Waiting. I love movies! So when I say you should watch his movies and not go over them with a microscope. They are entertainment and thats all they are meant to be. If you watch one expecting Oscar material... wake the hell up! I didn't mean they were great in that respect. That's another problem with people nowa days, you gotta spell it out for people or they try to put words in your mouth. Or put you down to make their point. Its so nice to know your clued into movies as you are the age of people!

well said dalstr, clearwriter obviously believes only dumb people watch dumb films, he sounds out of touch like most overly critical film fans, we all know that Jason makes b movies but so what, he has that charisma that gets you rooting for his character
