Best & Worst: Movie Star Tweeters

Nitwits and Twitpicks... Just who's worth following?

BY Josh Winning Dec 3rd 2009 10:10AMFILED UNDER: Features

Miley Cyrus ditched it. Man of the hour Robert Pattinson is staunchly against it. And we sort of, kind of, maybe love it (in the same way you can’t help but love a pillow-shredding puppy).

Yes, it’s Twitter. Like it even needs an introduction. Frankly, if you’re not on Twitter, you’re not alive. Or, more precisely, if you’re not on Twitter, no-one cares if you’re alive.

Bridging the gap between fans and the objects of their fan-lust like never before, Twitter has quickly become famous for its celeb ‘Tweeters’, offering an unprecedented insight into the comings and goings of our favourite slebs.

Stephen Fry was voted Top Twit in a survey by OnePoll. Even fuddies like Danny Glover (http://www.twitter.com/mrdannyglover) and Elizabeth Taylor (http://www.twitter.com/DameElizabeth) are getting their Tweet on.

But who’s really worth following? Enter the Tweeterdome...

The Best

Followers: 1,065,933

Oh, alright, we had to put Fry in. Yes, he’s topped every Twit list ever written, but really, following his Twitter is like shoving on a 24-hour episode of QI.

He’s got his fingers in all sorts of pies, and the links to prove it. Comedy blogs, YouTube vids about various oddities (we liked the Chartjackers one), funny news stories (like this one), Fry gives ‘em all a run for their money. Add him and enjoy.

Typical Tweets: “Oh. Oh dear. I hadn't realised this was considered odd or unusual. Oh well. No more slurrywhacking for me then. http://tinyurl.com/yh98xts

“Lunch with H.E. the Polish Ambassador at their embassy. V graceful of them. Another opportunity to apologise for my twatiness re Poland.”

The Worst

Pam Grier

Followers: 194,870

For somebody who’s posted a grand total of 13 times in five months, Greer has a ridiculous amount of followers.

So far, the two links that the former bad-ass have posted are to the Food & Wine website (which features ‘Pam Grier’s Chardonnay-Steamed Mussels’), and a YouTube video of chef Anthony Bourdain, who gives Grier a name drop. Must try harder.

Typical Tweets: “Just finished my memoir which is to be released on April 1, 2010 by Grand Central Publishing!! Stay tuned for more details and excerpts!!!”

“If any friends have a few dollars, igloo dog houses, rugs, clean towels, blankets, please send them to PAALS, a tax credit is given.”

Kevin Smith is very irritating on Twitter. After the first few pages of hearing about 'eating his wife's a*s' it gets a bit tired.

I'm saddened by the lack of any Simon Pegg or Edgar Wright on this list...

That's not to mention Peter Serafinowitz...who I guess could be said to have been left out because he's not exactly a movie star, but dammit he's by far the funniest person to follow on Twitter. Ever.

Neil Patrick Harris is reaching towards Nathan Fillion status though...Felicia Day is great too. I just wish Joss Whedon would join up.
