Gaze upon the glory of Nolan's latest…

Skywalker has to be a bit geeky, with hidden strengths. He has to look like he'd be ignored in a crowd, while also retaining the potential to be the romantic lead.
It's a very difficult balance, one that Whishaw pulls of with ease.
The fact that half the world has just seen him in Skyfall, the biggest film of his career, will definitely help his case.

Oh my god Total Film. We get it. Michael Fassbender is amazing. Jennifer Lawrence is attractive and therefore perfect for any film with a female ever.. Start putting some thought into these lists again please...

Hmm interesting list. Some of them could actually work me thinks
Nov 7th 2012, 17:10
I don't know how Michael Fassbender could be too British seeing he's Irish German.
Nov 7th 2012, 17:18
It doesn't make sense to continue a saga with younger actors playing characters that were already old in Ep4.. (Tarkin, Obi Wan etc).
Nov 7th 2012, 17:20
Pretty sure Jennifer Lawrence's schedule of films is pretty full for the next few years already so doubt she would be able to do this as well
Nov 7th 2012, 17:22
Fassbender British? You wish!! Sure while your at it why not claim Cillian Murphy, Colin Farrell and Til Schweiger as British. Top work Total Film!
Nov 7th 2012, 17:25
Wait, I don't get it, Harrison ford is NOT dead yet, so why not use him to act his own role? I hope they don't make the same mistake as the A-Team... but over all I am happy there is a new start wars soon :D
Nov 7th 2012, 17:41
Can't have Cumberbatch in Star Wars as any main character, he's in Star Trek now. Also, agreed with Hadouken, doesn't make ANY sense to reboot characters we know and love with younger actors; if episode 7 is going to be chronological, all those characters will be fairly old.
Nov 7th 2012, 17:43
What a truly awful list,, it's like the author 's just naming off popular actors he's just recently seen in popular movies.
Seriously, Scarlett Johanson Jennifer Lawrence, for Star Wars? WTF,, There is no thought or effort but into this article. I'd expect better from total film, the quality in these lists and articles seems to be slipping all the time,
Nov 7th 2012, 17:47
Oh lets have Ralph Fiennes play an evil Emperor like character because after-all, he played evil Lord Voldemort!! These casting choices seem like they've been put together by a 12 year old.
Nov 7th 2012, 17:58
What about Billy Aaron Brown for Han Solo. He used to look alike Harrison Ford in '8 Rules...'
The Point is the next trilogy will be on Solo and Skywalker children ? so Jensen Ackles is clearly a good choice for Jacen Solo (and a brunette Amber Heard for Jaina ?!).
Nov 7th 2012, 18:12
Well done Sam As(s)hurst on claiming Fassbender being "a little too British". Or are you claiming him because your Queen is of German descent? I'm joking here of course but still well done.
Nov 7th 2012, 20:52
Agree with Hadouken and JuLeanne.... This list makes no sense at all. Ep VII is set after Jedi, so, um, half the characters mentioned are dead. Tarkin was dead before the end of Ep IV!!! TF are getting lazy with their articles. And their research.
Nov 7th 2012, 21:39
Wow... the article was never about re-casting the characters (try reading the first entry people) but about finding appropriate actors for the archetypes, and on that basis its mostly a bit lazy but has some cracking ideas. I get peeved by inane work from this website as much as anyone but please people, lets try and avoid criticising perceived mistakes.
Nov 8th 2012, 5:52
FFS what is it with you lots and Michael Fassbender, do you lot work for his agent or something?
Personal opinion I know but never have seen the fuss.
Nov 8th 2012, 6:18
Fassbender IMO is one of the best and most exciting actors out there at the moment, him and Tom Hardy are on fire.
Nov 8th 2012, 10:45
This list just likens actors to roles they've played in the past i.e. Hardy, Hiddleston, Fiennes etc.. it's b0ll0cks! The original Star Wars wasn't cast like this so why don't TF come up with some fresh ideas! They tried filling the prequels up with famous actors - Jackson, Portman, McGregor, Neeson.... and they came out terrible! Why don't TF try enlightening us with the unknown actors that could make these Star Wars films so special - the NEW Harrison ford, the NEW Princess Leia...instead of just listing actors they think are similar to the originals. It's so damn lazy!
Nov 8th 2012, 12:03
MY WISHLIST: Fassbender flying the Millenium Falcon.
JGL playing a member of the Antilles family, preferably flying an X-Wing or an A-Wing. A FEMALE Sith! Mark Hamill as Luke (and having unbelievable powers
Nov 8th 2012, 14:29
OK, so here's my question....the new actors in the old ST roles is a great idea, HOWEVER...if these new movies are to follow RTOTJ, and they are NOT prequels, but a NEW storyline......WHY are we talking about casting new actors in roles of characters that are DEAD...i.e. (Darth Vader, The Emperor, Grand Moff Tarkin, etc...) I'm actually surprised NO ONE picked this up???....this list is a great wish list.....if they were REMAKING THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY, with those characters....otherwise....this list is a large waste of time. New top list actors, in NEW roles....with the old actors reprising their old roles is a good idea....thats about it.
Nov 8th 2012, 15:06
We all want to see Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson in metal bikini's. Together. At the same time. I forgot what point I was trying to make.
Nov 8th 2012, 16:12
What a terrible list. Michael Fassbender, one of the most uncharasmatic actors to play one of the most charasmtic characters ever? Darth Vader and the Emporer are both dead after Episode VI.. None of the other actors would actually play those roles and why should the new trilogy just be a repeat of the original one?
Nov 9th 2012, 0:23
TF, you must have known the films will be a sequal to the original trilogy and not the prequals as VII comes after VI.... So next time the work experiance kid cocks up, don't publish it on the f*****g website!
Nov 9th 2012, 12:21
God you're lazy TF.
Tom Hardy as Vader? Ralph Fiennes as the Emperor? Try swapping some of these choices around and see if you can go beyond the obvious. You chose some good actors, they can play more than one archetype.
For instance, both Jennifer Lawrence and ScarJo could pull off the Han Solo archetype. And who knows what you could come up with if you let your brains do some work.
Nov 9th 2012, 12:30
A dream cast that would never all sign on to this. I think the project will be lucky to get one of them on board. I mean come on, you chose the finest actors of our generation then shoved them into an article. The worst part about this is the fact you found a picture of a Star Wars character then scoured the internet for any old actor who seemed to be pulling the same face. The key to any relationship is keeping it playful and full of surprises and sorry to say, our relationship needs counselling.
Nov 9th 2012, 16:54
Um, if we're talking about casting for Episode 7, Grand Moff Tarkin, the Emperor, and Darth Vader should be out of the picture. Unless we're secretly getting a reboot, oh God, I hope not.
Nov 9th 2012, 16:56
Oh, and since it's Disney, I'm surprised Johnny Depp isn't getting considered for a role, like Luke Skywalker.
Nov 9th 2012, 17:25
Woody Allen for Darth Vader!! Tom Hiddleston - Yes! Gary Oldman - Yes! (Got the nose for Obi-Wan like Alec Guiness) But please give Ryan Gosling a rest - only a teeny-bopper's choice and not tough enough. Aaron Lockheart is more the man. Emily Blunt is a bit tight-lipped and hard-eyed but Scarlett would be great! Thanks for a fun list!
Nov 9th 2012, 20:56
All these actors and actresses are amazing, but I just don't see this happening. No, just no. If they will be recasting the old characters, they better get some fresh faces, because otherwise this is just not going to work.
Nov 10th 2012, 0:27
But that's because everyone who works for TF is a genius.
Nov 10th 2012, 0:38
This list is pretty awful and i'm guessing a joke. Darth Vader? Last i checked he died in episode VI. And what's with Lando being completely ignored? He was a major supporting character in episode V and Vi. Who cares about the black dude right?
Nov 10th 2012, 5:10
To anyone taking these fun lists too seriously...f**k you. Good job TF.
Nov 11th 2012, 6:35
Sorry but Fassbender exciting??? I clearly must be missing something
Nov 11th 2012, 9:57
OK TF, this is about casting Episode VII. Why trying to cast characters already dead in earlier episodes?
Obi Wan, Vader, Tarkin???
Nov 12th 2012, 9:41
@lousasso / acrestare and CSbennett, though your right about not re-casting the Emperor, just wanted to clear up, he isn't dead, not yet anyway .... mooo hahahahaa. but everyone is right this is episode VII therefore, Luke, Han and Leia aren't going to need revitalizing with new casting, and WOW they're all still alive!! good news, and Harrison Ford is very much ready to take on his role, thought i didn't take this list very seriously it was amusing.
Nov 12th 2012, 13:51
Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......Nathan Fillion......i think i have made my point
Nov 14th 2012, 20:56
Joe Flanigan from STARGATE ATLANTIS, would be perfect for the roll as Han Solo. If you have spent time watching not just one episode. However, quite a few episodes of SGA. You will notice he has a similar look. In addition, his mannerisms mirror Harrison Ford.
While know one can actually take Harrison Fords place. Joe Flainigan comes the closest. His actuall roll with costar Jason Momoa, is almost a Han Solo and Chewie style relationship. The other above choices do not have a Han Solo quality to them.
That being saind, here are my top 2 choices - Joes Flanigan
- Hugh Jackman
Nov 20th 2012, 20:00
Benedict Cumberbatch is a great actor and I;d rather he wasnt saddled with an old franchise like this. Its ok to dip in for 1 Star Trek film and have fun but not tied to this reboot. I;m much happier with the projects he is picking.
Feb 19th 2013, 16:51
Is there any reason why we can't have Ewan Mcgregor for Obi-Wan since he did also play him
Apr 5th 2013, 14:25
Ahhhh When did Micky Fass become British??? Dammit another good Irishman goes over to the Dark Side!!!!
Apr 8th 2013, 5:45
One name = Chloe Moretz
Can you picture her as a Female lead Jedi or Sith villain?????
I for one want to see a female lead or a female lead Sith....
We can have Ewan Mcgregor as Obi-wan...How you may ask Force ghost!
Ford, Hamill and Fisher are returning for there roles, plus there not recasting these three. Here I can see them doing parent type role or handing down to the next generation.
Question is what villain will take place?
Starwars 7 to take place 30 years after return of the jedi?
Jun 21st 2013, 10:56
Ryan Gosling. Yes.
Jul 8th 2013, 8:27
Is this article serious about recasting the original characters!?!?!?!? I think thats RETARTED!!!! It doesnt make sense because this movie takes place 30 year in the future!!!! I would like to see either an all star cast or all unknowns... Or Actually casting former child stars from the 90's would be a nice change of pace... Now if they do cast popular actors, they should play smaller roles!!!! I bieleve Luke should train the next Jedi Knight in episode 7!!! But not sure it should be a slow progression of training like in the past movies!!! A female villan would be very interesting too!!! By the way NO RYAN GOSLING!!!!
