Early Star Wars storyboards

Catch a glimpse of what A New Hope could have looked like

Given that Star Wars was in pre-production for about five years, it’s hardly surprising that a library of unused designs exists. Here are just some we’ve stumbled across.

Of particular note is the original look for The Millennium Falcon, labelled merely as ‘pirate ship’ here. It looks like a cross between the one seen in the movie and Princess Leia’s Blockade Runner seen at the beginning of A New Hope.

Interesting fact: The reason for this is that when 1975 TV series Space 1999 aired, it featured a ship similar to the original designs of The Falcon. ILM therefore redesigned Han’s ship and used the original designs as the basis for Leia’s craft.
