No, not the camera. If there's one thing Bay and his team know, it's how to compose a stylish shot. We mean in the storytelling. Just because Transformers has a rich tapestry of history to draw from, it doesn't mean you have to try and cram several stories' worth of plot and action into one film.
Since there's no longer a car-crash pile-up of writers, maybe Ehren Kruger could finally whittle down the story into something that can comfortably fit between Bay's love of exploding things.
It's surely not that hard to find an Autobots Vs Decepticons tale that can fit into two hours. How about a metal parasite afflicting both sides with a cure that must be found? Cue heroic deaths, swine flu satire and real odds.

'How Michael Bay Can Save Transformers' Bay has taken two films to destroy them! He can't do anything with the Transformers because he's a f*****g retard!

Did you seriously just suggest killing the main female character just to "spread the word" about a movie and give Sam Witwicky something to angst about? Stay classy, TotalFilm. And f**k you.

Who the f**k still uses "retard" as a pejorative? Someone that needs to grow up I would imagine, and shame on Total Film for allowing it. Some good suggestions there, the franchise isn't beyond saving, but if I'm honest the only real way to get there is by dumping Bay. The first Transformers movie was fun and enjoyable in spite of him, not because of him, so rather than having him approach the infinitely more imaginative Blomkamp as a producer how about we just dump Bay and have the South African bring us some decent Transformers action instead.

"Yes it had a complicated plot.." that wasn't the problem. The biggest problem was that it was boring. District 9 was an interesting analogy, it had great effects and was a decent film. Transformers 2 was bum-numbingly dull which made even Terminator Salvation seem good by comparison. TF probably gave it 4 stars because they needed the advertising money. It's a cruel capitalist world

Totally agree with everything Total Film said. The Decepticons were shocking. This should have been Transformers "Empire Strikes Back" but turned into The Phanton Menace with so called fan service thrown in. Get James Cameron to do the third. He can make a machine likable or not (T-800 and T-1000 in Terminator 2).

Lets get one thing straight, the first Transformers was amazing, it completely blew me away and I still love it, one of the reasons why the second film was such a let down was because it tried to do everything it did in the first film but bigger and better but just couldn't live up to the hype however, was still a bit of fun albeit definately too long. Bay should direct the third film however he needs more people around him to tell him where he isgoing wrong.

Does Total Film not remember Paramount are the ones who were so keen on Rushing this film out? Bay wasn't ready to make it and neither were the writers. They anounced it's release date and were promptly met with Bay announcing he knew nothing about it and wasn't going to make another Transformers film without a break and the writers were already struggling to finish Star Trek for Paramount and developing Fringe for TV. So Paramount hired a bunch of "farmed in" Writers to help fill in the Transformers blanks and kissed Bay's a*s to get him back on side. It isn't Bay who need a break it's Paramount who need a time out and to give more time and respect to both Star Trek and Transformers, as well as Bay Orci and Kurtzman. Transformers is big enough and so without baggage that it can stand a bad film or two (although once again the internet has produced a massive desparity between how how unpopular people on the net think it is and reality. to believe the forums NOBODY liked /transformers 1 or I Robot or Star Wars Episode 1 and so on. The reality is very different.

First movie was good and the second one?? No way!! The movie was all about big, meaningless explosions. Maybe it's time for Michael Bay to leave Transformers alone, so the trilogy can actually be saved; and yeah kill the girl because she is there to show her hot body and nothing else. With that way maybe they can recast someone who can really act..
